In this case 5000 series support is not a matter for the motherboard vendors, AMD itself says they aren't and won't be supported on x370. There really isn't anything Gigabyte/ ASUS/ ASRock/ MSI etc could do about it even if they wanted to (which they probably don't want to anyway since it drives more sales).

I was considering getting a 5000 series and flicking on my existing x370/Zen 1 system to my nephew, but the pricing has put me off completely. x570 and 5000 series is pretty pricey, and on a dead socket too. I will probably get a 3700/800 to replace my 1700 at some point and wait for AM5/ PCIe5/ DDR5/ Zen, uh, 5* on 5nm process.

*skip zen 4 cause 4 sounds like death in Chinese or whatever.
I was doing some more thinking, and I might try to keep my 3600 alive a bit longer, or if prices on the 3800x drop after the 5000 series releases, maybe side upgrading to one of those.

The price on the 5000 series is kind of prohibitive for me when I have so many responsibilities to take care of in the short and intermediate term.

We'll see though. Still, exciting to see AMD release chips that can actually compete with Intel.

CymTyr: Just curious if anyone is getting one of the new 5000 series Ryzen chips, or a new motherboard, or both. I'm waiting for January because my mobo's getting a bios update to support the new chips at that time :)

I haven't decided which one I'm going with, but if tax season is good to me, I'll probably get an 8 core. Currently rocking a 3600 and I love it, but of course I want the latest and greatest if it doesn't break the bank.

Have a good night and please post your thoughts here!
I'm planning to get a Ryzen 5950X, 128GB, RTX 3080 20GB for audio and video production, visual effects, 3D modelling and general content creation as well as gaming. Probably putting the build together sometime between Dec to Feb depending on product availability and other factors. Haven't chosen a motherboard yet though, but I've been looking at the Aorus Master and a few other ASUS and Gigabyte options. I suspect it wont come together until late January though.
I'm certain i will end up with the Ryzen 9 5900X, 5800X makes no sense with 50$ price hike and it's less than i want too.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was referring to: 5800 and 5600 aren't that good of a deal unless you are budget constrained and even more if you look at the Ryzen 3 gen with prices that are inevitably going to drop.

I think that it would be better to wait a few months to allow the prices to stabilize and then buy.

Sounds like a nice setup in the works :)
With me nah I already invested in a 3700X this past summer so I am good to go for a while. I may look at the 12 core variation whether be a 3900x or the 5900x sometime down the road in a coupe of years or so. Right now I am focused on upgrading my GPU which is a GTX 1070 I may be getting either a 3060 or a 3070.

3700X
ASUS ROG Strix x570 Gaming -E motherboard.
32GB of DDR4 3000 (3200mhz was more expensive at the time and there was little difference in terms of performance)
GTX 1070 (I am working on upgrading this)
When I got the motherboard I was having byers remorse because I got an overkill board for my needs and paid about twice what I would have paid for a motherboard but then again I am glad that I got it because of the newer tech the board has on it and it can handle any high end CPU you put in it. Also it is from a brand that I have a board from them before (ASUS Z97 Pro) and I know my way around their BIOS. It was the only decent board that I could get at the time due to the pandemic.

I had a 4790k before this so I got a pretty good upgrade.

clarry: Hmm, are there X570 mobos that require no chipset fan? Alternatively, is there something with a good sized heatsink that takes a standard fan so I can buy one (+ spares) from Noctua and know that my PC won't be ruined by a shitty & whiny little motherboard fan with bearings made of recycled condoms?
Yes there are. Gigabyte and AsRock the only ones that makes one but it costs an arm and a leg for it. The Gigabye X570 Aorus Extreme which is around $700 bucks (Newegg USD pricing) Also there is the rare now AsRock Aqua liquid cooling motherboard for VRMs and Chipset as well as CPU that was $1000 bucks.

Yeah, I'm pretty pumped about it. My existing system worked fantastic for a number of years and still does for many games and apps, but I got into a number of other much more demanding interests over time and the computer is basically a potato now so definitely overdue for a new build. :)

I understand completely. Before I upgraded to a Ryzen build, I was still rocking an AMD FX 8320, which as you might know, is pretty outdated.

The graphics card I could have held off on upgrading, but I got one when we got our stimulus checks this year. Got an 5700 XT for $369 plus tax. Not bad if I do say so myself, though it was annoying dealing with driver issues that only recently got fixed.

You'll definitely feel the difference when you upgrade :)

Yep, FX8350, 32GB, Radeon 7850 2GB here so it's gonna be a huge upgrade for sure.
I'm eyeing a 5600X for my gaming rig some time at the start of the new year.
I just built my first PC two years ago around a B350 motherboard with a Ryzen 5 2600. It replaced the PC I had built for me round a core i3 2120 that I kept for 6 years. Because of environmental reasons, I plan to have my current PC last 6 years as well, so it will be another 4 years before I again built a PC, even though the Ryzen 5000 series will be more energy-efficient that the Ryzen 2000 series, it's still a better use of energy (as most of it is spend in production, not in usage of a PC) to continue using what you already have.

Sweet! I just saw a benchmark leak showing it outperforming an Intel 10900K at single threading performance by a wide margin. I think the 5600 and 5600X are likely to become the new gaming standard for the masses. Great to see this level of tech competition in the marketplace after so long!
Uncertain.

Depends all on price; I'm due for building or buying a brand new PC.

Right now, Microcenter has i7 9700K for $200. Problem is: trying to find a new and cheap Z390 board.

Also, I need a new PC from scratch - so not sure what to get for Cooler and Case. Rest, I kind of have figured out here.

Also, don't know what sales that some close-out/clearance/fire sales/or whatever Ryzen 3xxx CPU's might have, maybe some Ryzen 4xxx CPU's, some Ryzen B450 boards, Ryzen B550 boards and whatnot.

I really want a new video card though - probably an Nvidia 3060, 3070, or 3080.
