Good point. I would add that the "FCK DRM initiative " was seemingly big news. They announced it on the front page, they reached out to journalists... And now, while it is still out there, you won't find a link on gog.com's homepage.

Funny story; I just went over to Stim to check whether Mass Effect 2 runs via Proton and found out that the shitload of DLC I bought for that game is unaccessible.

So yeah, you win by default.

Could we please try to improve on some things, anyways? A lot of shortcommings have been pointed out and I know you can do better.

It's been a rather frustrating year so far.

I haven't checked the site in a while, but wow, this change is the most disappointing thing I've seen GOG do. I'll grab my shit and leave.... or is there an option to get full refunds for everything as long as I promise never to come back?

We got over the Darren switch, the '69 Mustang, New Coke, and Robert Irsay's midnight move to Indianapolis, we'll get over this!

As a filthy Limey, the only one of those I've even heard of is New Coke -- and the thing about New Coke was, they brought Classic Coke back (and eventually discontinued the new version altogether). If Coca-Cola had doubled down on offering New Coke only, they'd have had an even bigger mess than they actually did.

But even as a more casual gamer and browser than many of the other folks here, I find the new GOG layout to be a bit of a dog's breakfast. It's not intuitively laid out, it takes longer to find many things, the site is slower... well, you know the rest. I really don't think this is just one of those "ah, you'll get used to it" things, because after several weeks that would have happened by now. Has it? Nope.

Admittedly some of the annoyances long predate the recent change. I've just checked, and GOG is literally the only online store I use where I can't sort by price. I mean, who at GOG HQ sits there and thinks, "Hey guys, better not let those silly customers find things out!"? It's bizarre.

- The empty black banner on front page has now changed to a dark purple banner.
- Username at top linking to my account is still missing.
- Still no News anywhere on the page - it's completely dropped off.
- Screenshots on game pages still missing.


These are more than just cosmetic changes. These are bugs. And they need to be fixed.
As it is now, the site looks broken and run down. Why would anyone want to spend money in a broken site?

Imagine a row of shops. One of those shops has smashed windows, broken lights, no merchandise displayed inside. Would you want to go in that shop?

Why can't I only see games that are on sale? Why can't I see the games that are on sale, sorted by the lowest price? Why does hovering the mouse over anything load a fucking youtube video?

I've been avoiding GOG for the most part since the change went in effect. It's clunky, visibility is somehow even worse than before, going through discounted items is a chore, and the real kicker is it runs like dogshit on slow internet.

My internet is trash, partly why I like DRM-free games and non-forced updates. A javascript abomination is the last thing I want to deal with.

At this point I'd hazard saying Steam's interface is better and less clunky... and I have despised it since it went "live". So well done GOG, you made something worse than Valve.

Just a note that's not a "client" issue really, that's a "the way EA handled DLC and DRM is utterly crap even by usual standards". EA's methods with DLC are part of the reason they had that falling out with Valve/Steam.

GOG can't get away with as much as other platforms. Anyone remotely "addicted" to games already likely has accounts with the other services (most customers probably do in fact). Thing is people shop with GOG because they choose to, nothing is being held hostage. This isn't the case with the other digital platforms even the non-PC ones.

This is the one major storefront that if it gets to be too much of a headache most people can say, "fuck this, I'm out you can shove your javascript marketing nightmare up your ass," and not actually be out anything. To completely abandon Steam one is abandoning their games both digital, 3rd party digital, and retail. To abandon GOG you back up your games and just stop buying there.

GOG really only work(ed) because of more or less no frills customer serving. It never really had the best prices, it certainly never saw the best support from devs/pubs be they indie or AAA, and it's not exactly the most convenient for the average user. Making things more cumbersome than their competitors while offering less (DRM-free installers being pretty much the only perk at this point) is going to shoot them in the bloody foot. The site overhaul makes GMG, Humble, Steam, Origin, and Uplay all look user-friendly. It is without a doubt one of the poorest performing sites I've visited in years. In the time it takes for the fucking frontpage to load and decipher the "sales" I could already have a game bought and downloading via Steam (and Steam is terrible, nowhere near a good example of proper web design)...

True, it's a DRM issue, just meant to point out another positive here.
Also I'd hazard a guess that the blame here is mostly on EA. Then again, I bought all the stuff on Steam, where Valve still doesn't deem it necessary to label DRM-free games as such. At the end of the day it's just a very bad customer experience, no matter how it's looked at. Also pretty sure it's theft.

On a positive note, would they go even one-two levels lower, it will become an art piece, because at this moment it's really hard to imagine how to go below... (but somehow I feel assured they *can* actually manage it, so I should probably add a disclaimer for GOG, that this is not request, but sarcasm ... otherwise who knows what they will do next time).

Did anyone mention the gif animated images on every game's page? Why are they there?
It's like a video that autoplays, except it takes more time to download.
