Greetings fellow MMO fans.

This is one of the original MMOs, released in 1996 by Sierra On-Line. It was a masterpiece for a myriad of reasons despite its well out of date graphics/mechanics, etc, but I don't care about any of that. It has mostly survived for two decades now, but the current ownership is letting it die away slowly and not taking care of it like they originally set out to do when they purchased it years back.

Having said all of this, I recently found a forum of former players and game enthusiasts who are eager to see the game back to what it once was.

I would urge former players or those who might be interested in it to vote for the title in GOG's wishlist. GOG is such an awesome platform and while I'm not expecting anything to happen miraculously overnight, you never know, with enough buzz and votes, who knows what could happen.

The Realm is the definition of a Good Old Game and GOG could really do well with an old-school MMO like this in terms of promoting it to the community, so I figured it was worth a shot.

My idea (hope) was to get GOG to purchase the original IP, which cannot be worth all that much as it currently stands, and then to sell the game at a flat price.

Thanks for taking the time!

GOG != GoodOldGames
GOG != A Platform
MMO != DRM Free
I used to play The Realm in 1996 and got all my friends to play it too. Ah the good old times!

That's awesome and I know right?

Was such a great game to play with friends.

It really was, there is actually a forum for old players if you wanna check it out: http://community.therealm.io/

The nostalgia will get you. I'm really hoping to get some more votes here on GOG for the wishlist. Who knows, maybe they'll take a look into it.

No, man, I'm not coming back. =) Wish I could, and wish you the best of luck in bringing more attention to it, but not me. It's been 20 years. In computer years that's like 2000. I tried coming back to some old games and rarely felt anything but bitter disappointment. I'd rather keep the fond memories than return to a woefully out of date game and lose even those.

Haha, I hear you and that's understandable.

To be fair, the original developer and game designer is working on a new version of it, so who knows what could come of it, but thanks for the feedback nevertheless!
I checked this game out and it looks good. I'll vote for it.

Wait, The Klling Fields? Is this a game about Khmer Rouges taking over a fantasy kingdom?

I have to admit I was about 10-15 years old for the main years that I played this so I'm not entirely sure of the Lore that players stuck to as it probably escaped me at the time, but there was certainly a lot of it and a LOT of PvP in the Killing Fields during the game's high population days.
GOG doesn't accept games where you have to pay a subscription to play.

From what other players and I can gather, the current owners are either bankrupt or approaching it because they have let their website and some other licensing lapse, as well as the server being down for months now.

It is not playble currently.
