Sorry, but it is GOG's fault. If you can't make sure that you get updates "as quick" as other stores (not talking about a couple of days here), it is your fault. Who else's fault would it be? You can't allow devs to damage your company's image. But that's exactly what's happening when they don't even give you patches but are still allowed to release more games here (and get awareness during sales). I never really believed that testing myth. How is that supposed to work? GOG receives a tiny patch for a game and then what? Install the patched game on a dozen of different systems and go bug hunting? Like... Starting a new game to play it through? Load old savegames from different points and try if there are any incompatibilities at some random point?
If that's the case, I really wonder that we get any patches at all. Because 1. That's a workload you can't possibly deal with and 2. Devs would have every right to tell GOG to piss off. You can't tell a dev that his v1.0.3 patch sucks and ask him to do a special patch (including the fixed fixes from the old patch) for GOG when they got 1.0.4 ready two days later. You probably could do this when you're Steam (they didn't bcome a monopolist because they're demanding unusual stuff from devs). But you can't do this as a niche store. Devs will just tell you that you're not worth the additional effort.
But seeing how GOG didn't even find the glorious Omerta bug (game breaking bug after finishing ANY mission), I can't believe they're doing this anyway. And that's where we get back to the core question: What exactly is that "testing" that everyone's talking about? Hookers 'n blow? Pizza? I'd test that all day long!
