Just wondering if there's any 'GOG's that were originally French exclusive, or still are on GOG that are worth playing?

It's the only language I'm fluent enough in to feel like I could play even a largely text or adventure game, and I could use the practice before I get too rusty.

Doesn't have to be a amazing AAA games of yore, even some quirky or offbeat titles might do. I realize I could play some English release games in French, but thought it might be fun to try something new.

Thanks

Many games here have french voiced versions (or subtitles). You can see the languages available in each game's store page. What type of games interest you? Adventure ones?
"Language" is one of the filters that we do have: https://www.gog.com/games?sort=bestselling&page=1&language=fr

As for exclusively available in French, GOG used to have a policy that every game on the store needed to have at least English language, but they eventually added a couple of Polish-only games, so who knows.

Syberia is probably the best-known French video game. I'm not sure however that it was written in French first, I think it's quite common for devs to think of the English version before any other, so it might be that despite the French origin you would not be playing the game in the language it was actually conceived in.
Kona is a nice game by a Canadian developer that has both audio and text in french.
There's at least one "French exclusive":

Lagaf: Les Aventures de Moktar - Vol 1: La Zoubida

which is a bonus to

Titus The Fox: To Marrakech and Back

Nice find! I didn't think there would be *any* exclusively French titles on GOG. Then again, this game doesn't look like you can improve your language skills with it, there hardly seems to be any text in it ... XD

Like Pkmns says, it's often hard to determine which language a game was originally written in, but Syberia would have been my first idea as well. I played it in French myself for that reason. Also probably Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy, Post Mortem and Still Life. Maybe Return to Mysterious Island, Lost Eden, Little Big Adventure, Alone in the Dark. Blacksad? XIII?

However, if you want to play something guaranteed to be written in French, you could play custom campaigns for Neverwinter Nights, like the acclaimed Batard de Kosigan series (I think 5 of the 6 episodes have been translated to English, but not the final one), or the Les Ombres de la Toile trilogy (exclusively French).

+1 for Little Big Adventure

It was from a French studio, so the native Language is French.
It is also a neat adventure game.
The Alone in the Dark series comes to mind. You will not be able to enjoy the original french voices but text is available in french and several other languages. Buy it here and download the original .iso files from abandonware france, they sure have them, and play those instead if you wish to enjoy the full experience ... There are workarounds you can use those files, not available or hard to find, to make french audio work with GOG versions. You shouldn't feel guilty mounting and playing the originals after buying a copy here. :-)

To be quite frank, to resort to abandonware to enjoy a game in its original, it is stupid!

Offering games without their original voices, like many Daedalic games, Anna's Quest, they were released in German and what do you get here? English audio, german, french, italian, polish text, wonderful ... This, to me, feels like we are caged in zones instead of a digital world without borders. A world everyone can enjoy media, movies, games, in several languages of the world including their native when there is one available ... Copyright, instead of further restricting it, closing off whole regions, they should arrive in the freaking 21'st century ... high time to ...

With Anna's Quest, I'm not so sure whether German is the original language, as the author, Dane Krams, seems to be Australian. But due to the cooperation with Daedalic, of course it's possible that the voices were recorded in German first, or at least that they chose more professional voice actors for the German version.

Otherwise I agree with what you wrote.
Any game from Cryo or Infrogrames used to be fully dubbed.
A lot of old Cryo games were probably developed in French, or at least simultaneously with the English version.

Cryo games on Gog that I have personally played in their French versions are the Atlantis trilogy and Black Moon Chronicles (based on a french comic).
If you happen to use Steam, you can find Salammbo there as well. I'd somewhat recommend it solely for its strange atmosphere.

I think you are right, there is no German audio for Anna's Quest. There isn't German audio for Shadow Tactics either, which I would expect, from a studio headquartered in Munich, instead of English and Japanese. While it fits the theme of this game is something I would never have expected. ;-)

A better example would have been DSA: Satinav's Ketten and Memoria, both available here, both without German audio or text. Memoria is En/En only and Chains of Satinav offers En/En audio and text as well as En/Ru audio and Russian text output. Here, on GOG, that is. Steam? Both DE/DE, interface, full audio, subtitles.

Back to Alone in the Dark, while GOG offers text output in several languages, including french, Steam only offers EN/EN for 1, EN for audio and text in several languages for 2, EN/FR/GER/ITA offering full audio, interface and subs for 3. Each sold separately or in a bundle with New Nightmare. I don't know whether these example will make my case but if they got it why shouldn't we? What reason is there preventing it? Certainly not that Steam's an American company and GOG is not.

Here's another one for AdamvsMaximvs: The Heroes of Might&Magic games, except Heroes Chronicles which is only available in EN/EN, offer full audio and text output in french.

There are games that don't have any English translation that deserve to be on GOG for sure, but I don't recall any that would be in French. There must be some, but I really don't know what they are.

Anyway, about those Polish games, there is a fan sub for Kajko & Kokosz so it's possible to play that in English.

Amerzone is a pretty decent adventure game which also has french audio and subtitles, so it should be good for practice. (If I'm not mistaken its creator, Benoit Sokal, is French as well)

About "exclusive", what exactly do you mean? Games that are only available in the french language? If so, I don't know of any.
