pimpmonkey2382.313: That's not an fmv game.

Ixamyakxim: You know I saw the Privateer and Wing Commander references so I figured just cutscenes would count. It's not here, and I never played as much of it as I would have liked but I remember Iron Helix being interesting.

What about the Journeyman games? Weren't the early ones FMV?
I would count JMP but not enough in dark forces 2 for me to really count them.

drealmer7: Gabriel Knight 2 is probably the best FMV game that I know of, though I haven't played through the Wing Commander games yet (eeek!), so those are worth looking at too!

Faenrir: Don't listen to that guy. Gabriel Knight 2 is an unplayable mess.
What do you mean?
Mega Race, mostly for the odd awkwardness of Lance Boyle. Game itself is fun though, but the Lance Boyle cutscenes just make it much more fun.

drealmer7: What do you mean?
Exactly what i wrote. You said it was the BEST game. No. It might be the best story or the best in acting (even though i'm pretty sure it's not) but it's not the best GAME. It seriously fails at being even an ok game. I'd suggest anyone interested in gabriel knight to skip playing that game and watch it on youtube instead.
The UI is so clunky it completely kills any enjoyment i might have gotten.

While i'm not a fan of FMVs, i have played some and i can enjoy them...this is clearly a gameplay issue.

On a side note, i don't think anyone mentioned Police Quest so i'll throw the name. (the 4 is in some kind of FMV throughout the whole game and i think some others have video cutscenes as well).
Ooh... I almost forgot about Dragon's Lair and Space Ace!

This is what I wanted, actual examples of the issues you have, not just "unplayable mess." I don't really have any issues with the UI in GK2, myself, it's all pretty straightforward and easy-going. I would call GK1 way more clunky than 2, and even that's not really clunky. You want clunky, play some even older Point and Click adventures. Heck, even the Tex Murphy games are more clunky than GK2, so, really, it's all relative. I might actually say, that of all the PnC adventures I played from the early-mid 90s, GK2 probably had one of the smoother interfaces.

JPaterson84: I'm going back to my early childhood days and looking for some FMV games to play, and therefore need some recommendations. Preferably ones I can purchase from here, although other platforms are just fine.

Titles already in my list are:

Phantasmagoria
11th Hour
7th Guest
Under a Killing Moon

Thanks for any suggestions!
click on the "MOVIES" tab. otherwise, outside of gog.com, try finding a SEGA-CD in a garage and play NIGHTTRAP.
Wing Commander 4
Gabriel Knight 2
Pirvateer 2

Dude, you're high. Point & click is one of the first genre i played, back in the day (starting with very old games like "Le manoir de mortevielle" and such). GK2 is a mess, the screens are confusing and the view angles suck. GK1 was a masterpiece and you can feel there's a BIG difference in budget for the programming of the games. Most of GK2's budget has been used for the FMVs.
"one of the smoother interfaces"...haha. Seriously, quit trolling. Either you're trolling or you've never played good games.
I have a real soft spot for FMV adventure games and of the ones I've played I'd recommend the following:

Available on GOG:
- The Tex Murphy series (unsurprisingly!): Great characters, humour and stories. Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive and Overseer are all excellent FMV games. I haven't played Tesla Effect yet as I'm saving it!

- Gabriel Knight 2: Great story and challenging puzzles. I'd agree with drealmer7 that the interface is fine - I didn't find it any more clunky than other similar adventure games.

- Zork Nemesis: A dark setting and story, together with good puzzles make this one well worth playing.

- Phantasmagoria 1 & 2: Can't claim either are great games, but they are enjoyable and worth playing for the experience.

Not on GOG:
- Black Dahlia (1998): A long game, with an engrossing story and some very hard puzzles. Although I don't like using walkthroughs, I must admit I had to use one several times for this, but I still thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough. A word of warning, it's not for sale anywhere digitally and if I remember correctly it can be difficult to get it working.

- Morpheus (1998): A ghostly adventure set on a deserted ship trapped in the arctic ice. The setting, story and puzzles make this one worth playing. Again, I don't think this is available for sale anywhere digitally, which is a real shame.

- Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective Volumes I, II & III (1991, 1992 & 1993): In my opinion these games are absolute gems. Each game consists of three cases, which Holmes and Watson have to solve by following up clues around London, before presenting their evidence to a judge. The actors playing the duo are superb, especially Watson who displays an excellent dry wit. The original games aren't available for sale digitally, however the first game has been remastered by Zojoi (the makers of Shadowgate) and is available for sale on their website.

I wish! Pass the herbs!

What other games are you comparing it to from the time that were better? I would agree that most of the LA games were smoother/better as far as their interface/item interaction on the screen, but that doesn't mean GK2 was bad, it just wasn't supreme. Tex Murphy, Space Quest, King's Quest, and dozens of others from the time, worse interfaces IMO. We don't have to agree, but a nice healthy discussion about our differeing views is what I'm going for here. Not to troll, not to rag on each other, but to talk about our differeing perspectives.

only read the reviews and i think LGR did a video on it? nope, i'm wrong. it was supposedly the first shooter game with NPCs(cops) that get pissed off if you draw your weapon. that's more interactivity than you would find in most shooter games.

and it had the INTERNET!
http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/william-shatners-tekwar/screenshots/gameShotId,12516/

but then again, Cybermage came out in the same year and it was years ahead of any other shooter game until Deus Ex came along.
