I've played Fantasy Wars quite a lot, but upon returning to it recently after a long break I wasn't having nearly as much fun anymore. It's a great game, but I think I just burned out on it.

Chronicle Runescape Legends is quite interesting and original, but I suck at it so terribly I had to give up on it :D I don't know what it is, but for some reason I'm hopeless at that game.

Anything else out there worth checking out? It would be great if
a)it had some decent single player content
b)matches were on the shorth side
c)there was a mac version (I could play with a friend then, poor guy has chosen to use the apple crap for some reason)

Frankly, I'd recommend living card games or LCGs over CCGs any day. If you're not familiar with the genre it does work similarly play-wise, but there's always the same base set of cards from which players build their decks while they're playing. This also eliminates the problem with CCGs which always favors those that spend more money/grind more.

Matches with those can last quite a bit longer depending on the game. That said, of the shorter ones one of my favorites is Star Realms, whose base digital version goes for a measly 5 bucks. You can give the free/trial version a go to see whether it's to your liking. The full version boasts more single-player content as well as more AI difficulties for bot-play.

Well I got my closed beta invite for Gwent this tuesday and I'm loving it. Only bought that 7 kegs deal for 9 euros and that was enough to get a pretty decent deck.
If you've played Magic the gathering I'd also suggest checking out Eternal ccg. It has the best draft mode I've ever played and It's very balanced since they have pro magic players like Patrick Chapin and Luis Scott Vargas in the development team.

I think it's because it's still in Beta. They are planning on launching on Android so they'll likely have their own game client when the game is released

Tyrant on Kongregate brought me MANY hours of fun.

I think that most of the desired points could be met with Shadowverse. Matches won't last long, it is on mac as well, it has a singleplayer that helps you to understand deckbuilding and card abilities. And what's more - it is for free and you get bunch of cards frequently without need to put real money in - it feels considerably less grindy than Hearthstone and it doesn't feel like a chore to get a usable deck you can have fun with.

At the moment, and based on what you're looking for, I would probably recommend Faeria. It was released on Steam awhile ago and it's got a pretty fair Free-to-Play model, at least in my opinion. It's a nice mix between Magic: The Gathering and Duelyst. It's a got a turn-based playing field like in Duelyst and a land mechanic in order to play most cards like in Magic, but in Faeria you're actually placing land on the playing field, so in order to reach your opponent to defeat them, you have to actually build a path to them, and your deck consists of only 30 cards, so winning a match relies quite a bit more on strategy than on luck and good cards, and matches can be somewhat short. I also find it's a pretty chill game to play too. The tutorial isn't super great because it doesn't explain certain smaller aspects of the game like the difference between certain card types, but for the most part it's an easy game to pick up and play. There's quite a bit of Singleplayer content to start you off, but eventually you'll have to buy new mission with in-game Gold if you want to keep playing Singleplayer. The amount of Gold you can earn is pretty fair, but I can understand some people's frustration with it. The Multiplayer can be really fun and exciting at times. There's Casual and Ranked modes as well as a Draft mode. And what's nice about Faeria is that you can start off with a Guest account to give it a try and if you find you like it you can make an actual account and be gifted a couple of card packs. And there's no time limit on the guest account so you can just take your time with it. Hope that helps!

There is certainly a renaissance of card games going on right now. Duelyst, Faeria, Pox Nora and Card Hunter all come to mind and they are all cheap as free to play.

Never got on with the LCG ones, got a load of the Lord Of The Rings ones, and the missus likes them, but I just find them way to hard and not much fun. Am currently quite into Acension (was on the iPad, but got the actual physical copy now) and mean to get Dominion and Thunderscape at some point.

As for online play, I have no idea, I don't do anything online, but I know that Ascension can be playe online.

I know I'm being picky, but the anime graphics style is an instant "nope" for me.

I've actually noticed that one a while ago, but unfortunately it's only playable with Steam.

I've played Card Hunter and enjoyed it, although eventually it got a bit repetative, at elast in single player. I might give multi a chance, have not tried it yet. Duelyst and Poxnora look interesting ,at least at a glance, I'll have to look into them further.

Anyway, thank's to everyone who's sharing suggestions- even if I "reject" them, it's still appreciated, especially since the thread isn't only about finding me a game (I may not have time to really pick one up right now), but also simply about my curiosity about how the genre is doing. So even stuff I'm not interested in playing, is interesting to me in it's own way :)

We've played the physical game a couple of times before and it's good fun. Might look into the digital version too, thanks for mentioning this.
