throgh: Besides that GOG also has classics within their catalogue, but going on this "new" mentality it is furthermore the way like
REMASTERED running on modern system.
Turok 2 anyone? Yes, some enhancements are nice but only running on a 64bit-system? But hey: Forget about everything else and older games must have an enhancement in the future. GOG seems to forget about their roots, more and more. And they will forget their other principles like DRM-free!
JudasIscariot: We didn't make or remaster Turok 2, though.
Yes, thanks for addition. :)
But the thread is not only about GOG and I would not speak about a "complot". But it is interesting especially how those remastered versions are developing. Of course: Better graphics cannot have the same specifications as the original game. But regarding
Turok 2 it was / is over the top. I liked GOG as it was about "Good Old Games". And I liked GOG as platform for Indie-titles. But I don't know if I like this upcoming, new GOG, with "optional" client included and more additions like STEAM. So in summary the direction is not the best for the moment!
paladin181: Talk to the studio who remastered it with a 64bit .exe. However, if you have a computer that isn't 64bit, why? How old is that thing? You should replace your computer at least once every 5 years (10 years if you're some type of skinflint). If you bought a computer in the last 5 years and don't have a 64bit system, you're the only one to blame. If your computer is older, STOP TRYING TO GAME ON YOUR TOASTER.
Well: You know my system better than me? Or where is the conclusion that I don't have a computer regarding the specifications? ;-)
Besides the original works flawless on Linux with the usage of WINE, the remastered version ... not really.
paladin181: It kind of irks me when people moan that system requirements that were standard 5 years ago are too strict. There's a guy at my work who wanted me to help him with a 15 year old keyboard working on his new computer. After spending 2 hours more than I should have trying to support him and his scroll wheel, I told him what Logitech (the manufacturer of the keyboard) told him: BUY AS NEW KEYBOARD YOU CHEAP BASTARD. He had also complained about end of life for XP since he had pirated that and all his software, some of which didn't work right on newer versions of windows. If people want to stick themselves firmly in the past, that's great. Just don't whinge when everyone else leaves you behind.
Well that's your problem or better the problem of the person you are talking about. Not mine: I don't pirate software, but what I like is free (open) hardware, free (open) specifications and especially
open communication. Within the last point GOG has more to learn these days! Yes, the criticism about
Turok 2 is a little bit unfair, but that's another point regarding the roots. They were "classic, good old games" - seems a long time ago. :D
