pimpmonkey2382.313: What's next? Begging for Apple II gs support?
That might be taking it too far, but System 7 on the other hand... okay, maybe not. :)

I mean, seriously, if people can't see that this is really a whole, world wide conspiracy against the Atari 800, I don't know what to tell ya.

And I thought it was against the PDP 11/40. I can't believe how blind I have been!

On a more serious note, I'd really like to have an Atari 800, or at least a 400.

mechmouse: It exploited a weakness in the long defunct XP OS.
Assuming you are talking about the WhyCry (or similar), the vulnerability was part of SMB and was present in most (if not all) versions of Windows. The patch for said vulnerability was released a month or so ago, for all OS still getting security updates.
A Win7 without said update is as vulnerable as any WinXP machine, but a patched Win7 machine is not vulnerable.

Tell me if you want me to find said patch, though it may need to wait until tomorrow.

Yes I'm on about the SMB vulnerability.

And you are quite right about the need to patch. But you can't patch without a patch, and XP hasn't been getting patches for quite some time.

Win7 has also left mainstream support, yet I believe is still getting critical patches.

The point is XP is more vulnerable, because even fully patched there are plenty of exploits which have been addressed in later versions.

Not to say newer OSes are 100% safe, rather their discovered vulnerabilities are being patched.
Actually because of these hacking events xp also got a new patch, but i wonder how a pirated xp os sp3 should be updated?

As the poster above me mentioned, there has been a Windows XP patch released, but I thought I might provide a link to said information, just for the sake of convenience:

Don't drop the XP support please.I still have a XP OS on my old PC, which i'm using for old games and it is up to date thanks to the Windows XP POSReady 2009 registry hack.

An emergency patch. Currently supported OSes had that hole fixed months ago.

I understood that already, hence the reason why I only mentioned Windows XP. :-)

EDIT: I do agree with you, though, that WIndows XP shouldn't still be used in any critical systems after all this time.

XP is like DOS:an excellent operating system in it's time, but it's time is past.
With more and more online appllications requiring a 64 system, the situation is just going to get worse.(one of the main reasons for the demise of XP it did not work well with 64 bit; XP 64 was a fiasco).
Keep XP in a Virtual Machine, or in a Dual Boot, or as old Computer for the exlcusive purpose of playing games, but DON"T go on the Internet with it;you are begging for trouble.
Please explain why GOG should go the expense of supporting a OS whose user base is shrinking by the day.
BTW if you are insisting on running your GOG games in XP, I suspect that most of the GOG games (except for the post 2009 ones) will run on a XP computer, even if the installer does not work. Install the game on a more recent Windows systems, and then just move or copy it to your XP drive.

WHne you have to hacke the registry to get a system to function, time to switch to a new system.

Nonsense, the real conspiracy is against CP/M......

Vissavald:
Probably you have missed the news, Microsoft drops official support for Windows XP as of 8th April 2014
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14223/windows-xp-end-of-support

And "stupid-stupid" game developers don't use DirecX 9 for some reason.

But for GOG's sake I don't get WHY GOG can't support DOS operation system officially >>> Hah-hah-hah [homeric laughter] ;))))

Ganni1987: On the FO3 topic: This is rather weird how people have game problems with Quad Core CPUs. I've played the game on my i5-2400 for literally years without issue. Only thing I "edited" was that I removed the stupid GFWL since the first day I installed the game (have Boxed GOTY Edition).

Themken: Weird indeed but since it stopped crashing twice every three hours or so I was happy. Did you play in Wine or Windows? Someone above said this problem was not present in Windows XP.
This was back on Windows 7, Intel i5-2400, GTX 560Ti. If I had constant crashing I would remember it for sure as it's a game I played for hours on end.

If things work without the hack, good. If it works after a hack, good.

That computer beats my current one...
