I notice in your opening post that you list Field of Glory. An expansion for Field of Glory II is shown right now on their main page, so maybe you're already aware of Matrix Games? If not, I bet they have at least a few titles that fit your criteria.

Yes, yes, it's my longing and my yearning... :) But Slitherine doesn't know what regional pricing is, and the price for Russia is quite steep for me. It would need to save up some gold to me to afford FoG2.

I recommend two games:

Ancient Battles

Ancient Battles is a precursor to Great Battles and Field of Glory. It may be a bit dated by today's standards, but it's still fun to play on dosbox.

The second game is Annals of Rome

Annals of Rome (from 1986) is apparently available on Steam, but not here on GOG, which is ironic since it fills every definition of a Good Old Game.
