Hello to all.

I'm interested in games of any genres that dedicated to Antiquity, more preferable to Ancient Greece, though Rome, Egypt and other themes are welcome too (safe Far East and Japan, sorry).

Besides of games that are presented here on GOG and that I own:

Age of Decadence (to some extent)
Apotheon
Caesars
Calls to Power
Civilizations
Children of the Nile
Cultures
EU Rome
Great Battles
Invictus
Pharaoh
Populous
Settlers
Seven Kingdoms
Titan Quest
Zeus

or that I own at others locations:

Age of Empires
Age of Mythology
Alea Jacta Est
Ancient Conquest: Ouest for the Golden Fleece
Chariots of War
Dominions
(to some extent)
Field of Glory
Gates of Troy
Hegemony
Legion
Loki
Numen
Rise and Rule of Ancient Empire
Rome Total War
Spartan

what else games could be decent to pay attention (and maybe even money)?

Thanks in advance

You may also be interested in Treasure's GOG MIx that deals with this very exact subject :)

Thanks for a tip, strangely enough but I never used Mobygames and its search engine, it might be useful.

But I'd want to hear some personal impressions or advices too! :)

Thanks, Judas, but I think I know EVERY game on GOG that use the Ancient Greece or Antiquity setting :) And I don't think that Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron or Apache Longbow would have anything common with Ancient Greece :D (that's the nature of GOGMixes, strange and deceptive).

NES had The Battle of Olympus. Tough as nails that game.

Yet Okhlos is missing from your list. :P

No contradiction in my words :P I do know Okhlos but I do not own it - and never plan to, because this game is a pure pseudo-retro pixel crap which is so fashionable now, alas.

Asking a question about games on GOG (yes, we still remember what these letters was standing for!) I would expect the answer about not necessarily Old but definitely Good games ;) (and these two definitions too often come together to be just a coincidence!).

It doesn't actually deal with this very exact subject, as my aim was more to show appearances of Greece from all time periods, and I also included Greek islands that for long were not unified with their Greek brethren, and many still aren't today (e.g. Cyprus). You could consider I tried to raise awareness about the multiple faces of Greece, beyond and over just mythology.

Author of the mentioned gogmix here. Well, my gogmix was never meant to be about Ancient Greece, as I personally think that Ancient Greece is rather overrated. It's point is to show games that generally include Greece in all time periods, either as a playable faction (in strategy games), or include Greek locations as a cameo. Part of the aim was to show the multiple faces of Greece in gaming and/or help fellow Greek gamers who might have wanted to have Greece as a playable faction. I included the games about Ancient Greek mythology only because that's the first thing foreigners think of when they hear about Greece (though nowadays they probably think more about Greece's current condition, but I digress), and because indeed some appearances of Greek stuff are generic Greek ruins, that do reflect somewhat the historic past though (e.g. the Greek ruins under Instnbul in Indy and the Emperor's Tomb, because Constantinople was Greek before it was conquered by the Turkish).
Tl;dr -my gogmix isn't strictly about ancient Greece, as that wasn't the aim of my making it, but it might bring some awareness of the fact Greece isn't just the ancient one...
Not mentioned yet: Praetorians.

Yes, Greece is not just the Ancient Greece. But there's no way to overrate the Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece is the mother and father of Europe, european culture, european way of life, of thought, of science, of everything. And it's like that not only for european countries themselves but for almost all the world (USA, Latin America, Russia, Australia), maybe just excluding Asia and Africa.
And it's not Roman empire who should be called the Source, you haven't misread. Rome is a bland and distorted copy of Greece, even Latin language has about 50% of borrowed Greek words and roots.

So one can only underestimate the Ancient Greece.

You outwent me :), I just wanted to edit my first post to add that Praetorians is still in my Wishlist and that it shall enter into my Library ASAP.

And it's a big pity that Nemesis of the Roman Empire isn't here yet :(

- Rise of the Argonauts
- Ryse: Son of Rome
- Nethergate: Resurrection (I think? I understand it takes place in ancient Britannia.)
- Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome (just remembered this small indie RPG!)
- With regards to Egypt, there's the Ankh adventure series, but it might be too goofy for your tastes?

Note that apart from Ryse, I haven't played any of the above myself.

Oops sorry. Just wanted to advertise your GOG Mix regardless since it does deal with Greece :P

Yes, I do know it, but it seems that reviews are rather negative

Looks promising but system requirements are too high for me :)

Oh, I smell the Old-School here :) Age of Decadence in Ultima/Serpent in the Staglands' skin.

As for Ankh, seems you're right about it being goofy :)
