Went back to try out something in linux, updated manjaro
lets see steam , oh no black store and library page...

turned out steam runtime didnt update something ,and the new freetype2 font version and they are not compatible ...
these things happen with linux all the time, linux is just wasting time left and right , no wonder most people dont bother with it

if linux wants to be a major desktop they should start stopping distro hopping and put together a standard base companies can use to make apps for , until then it is a huge pile of mess

at least they fixed the voice output channel switcher

oh if you want to join on the linux rant wagon , tell us what was the last thing linux made to upset you

Linux is distro hopping? They?
I think you don't understand anything about the backend of Linux.

Nope, that’s my main issues as well, you can’t talk about Linux in the same way as windows as it’s various bits. If you have a website ranking variants it’s not for me. I like simply installing windows and running everything, using decades of use on it. If I could get the same from Linux I might move over, but not got time to learn it all and try it all out.
Sounds like bad Steam experience.
Blame Valve!

could be , especially how they talk about supporting linux gaming with their new toy
but still , this only happened on linux cause there are way too many different distros and they only support a few and looks like Manjaro is not one of those while it is one of the most used

bit.rot: Fedora works well for me, majority of my 1500ish Steam and GOG games work on it. Updates are pretty elegant too. Cutting edge yet very "default", feels like the most standard representation of Linux there is for someone just wanting to get on with it. Sorry you had a bad experience.
thx
wish I had started out with a different distro ,but I listened how manjaro is for gamers, the arch aur repo is overrated anyway

Users may distro hop, Linux itself would have to develop self awareness and buy a PC in order to do that.

I'm pretty sure Steam will fix that pretty soon, in the meantime you can try switching to beta, or simply switch view to small mode or big picture mode.

nah i've managed to fix it with installing older version of the font dependency , so it works not , it it just frustrating that nearly every time i try out linux something like this happens, like how timeshift ate all the spare space and linux couldnt boot into the de ... i dont even get how it used that much space when it was set to incremental save

wish a linux distro would go the google chromeos way I've heard it is getting a lot of market share lately
looks like all it needs is a prefixed standardized os people can use without problems popping up

This issue happens even on Windows.

From what I observed, Steam is rather unpredictable, working flawlessly for some people while having countless issues for others, no matter the OS.
Well, more things that are not working 100% in Manjaro: The icons for Steam and the package manager are greyed out and have been so for ages.

Anyway, I attached a picture of what Orkhepaj talked about. The library is just as black meaning I cannot access any of the few games I have there. Good thing not to be reliant upon a client that may or may not work on any given day.

Linux is imperfect. But, in a world where nothing is perfect, it's good enough, and for me, better than any current alternatives. Obviously for you, it isn't. The whole "stop liking what I don't like" thing is getting tiresome, though. Why you don't get banned for your constant trolling of every Linux-related thread is a mystery to me (or maybe not; moderators probably just don't care if Linux (and its users) gets maligned).

I had a more complete response written, but you'd just ignore it or twist it by redefining words, so I've deleted it. Any response to a troll just encourages more trolling, anyway, and it's not as if you actually care what anyone else has to say.

The only thing I will say is that you damn well knew (or should've known, since it's written everywhere) that Ubuntu is the only supported distro on this site, and the most commonly supported distro elsewhere, as well. Stop complaining about Manjaro (a distro so popular it doesn't even make the distrowatch "major distros" list) like it represents all of Linux and pretending that you can't switch now that you're chosen what obviously doesn't work for you.

[warning: no need to get personal and provocative on this; if you would like to talk more about motives of the OP, please do it in DMs - ponczo_]

Well to be fair, Linux is an uncommonly used operating system by the gaming public... and you aren't even using the more common varieties of Linux.

To my knowledge (which is perhaps wrong), Ubuntu is the most common Linux OS, comes officially recommended by Steam/Valve. And I think Linux Mint is also up there in popularity but could be wrong.

So you aren't using the OS recommended by Steam, and are then complaining when things don't work out optimally...? Really?

Don't get me wrong... I'd love to get to a point where we can use whatever variety of Linux or any other OS we want and everything works great for gamers. But we aren't even close to that point yet, so I don't know why you would be surprised majaro doesn't work flawlessly with Steam right now.

And I say that as someone hoping to switch to Linux soon. But I'm going to be realistic about it and try using one of the more common varieties to hopefully avoid some of these problems you're having.
