The DRM-Free Revolution Continues with Big Pre-Orders and Launch Day Releases!

Good news! GOG.com is going to bring you more fantastic launch day releases, preorders, and other exciting new content from some of our favorite developers. We've lined up 3 big titles that we will be bringing to GOG.com in the next couple of months for sale or preorder that we think will be hits with all of our gamers; and we have more equally exciting games coming up soon.

If you've been a member of the site for a long time, you may recall that when we launched sales of The Witcher 2 on GOG.com, we had to add in regional pricing. The game cost different amounts in in the US, the UK, the European Union, and Australia. We're doing something like that once again in order to bring you new titles from fantastic bigger studios. Since we don't accept currencies other than USD on GOG.com right now, we'll be charging the equivalent of the local price in USD for these titles. We wish that we could offer these games at flat prices everywhere in the world, but the decision on pricing is always in our partners' hands, and regional pricing is becoming the standard around the globe. We're doing this because we believe that there's no better way to accomplish our overall goals for DRM-Free gaming and GOG.com. We need more games, devs, and publishers on board to make DRM-Free gaming something that's standard for all of the gaming world!

That brings with it more good news, though! As mentioned, we have three games we're launching soon with regional pricing--two RPGs and a strategy game--and while we can't tell you what they are yet because breaking an NDA has more severe penalties than just getting a noogie, we're confident that you'll be as excited about these games as we are. For a limited time, we will be offering anyone who pre-orders or buys one of them a free game from a selection as a gift from GOG.com, just like we did for The Witcher 2.

If you have any questions, hit us up in the comments below and we'll be happy to answer (to the best of our ability).

EDIT: Since we've answered a lot of the common questions already here (and lest you think that we've ignored you), it may be handy for you to check out the forum thread about this and search for staff answers by clicking this link here. (hat tip to user Eli who reminded us that the feature even exists. :)

TheEnigmaticT: If we find the terms too onerous, we can elect to not sell it, but that's fundamentally our only rights when it comes to the titles on GOG.com. The fact that we have an audience for the games we sell means that we get a certain amount of negotiation power, but this is a case where, for the companies where they have set up regional pricing have contracts with retail chains and other digital distributors and they're not gonna break their covenants just to make us happy. Either we provide them with regional pricing or we don't sell their game. Simple as that.
The thing that worries me still is that for pretty much any post you've made in this thread you could take out the words "regional pricing" and insert "DRM", and you could be saying the exact same thing in the future.

I'm quite certain that there are several publishers who've refused to sign on with GOG because of the no DRM stance. At what point would getting their games be more important to you than staying DRM free?

Newer bigger games means more money they can dump into Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Just a thought.

whodares2: I be willing to be the two RPGs are Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. As far as the strategy game goes......I have no idea. Either way it'll be a fun time I'm sure.

Darvond: Why would CD PROJEKT RED need to region price their own games?
A very good question. The answer is: I was only jesting. Clearly CDPR will release their games here in pre order, as before. I was only playing with the numbers and the known. ;)

*If* those games are inferred here, it might be for the same reasons as for The Witcher 2 (You know, the Namco/ Bandai deal).

TheEnigmaticT: I honestly have no idea what you're talking about here.

That's a bloody joke.

Probably for the same reason they region priced Witcher 2?
Why sell these games at all and risk comprising the original GOG philosophy is what I don't understand. Correct me if I'm wrong but GOG was never intended to be a Steam, Origin, etc equivalent. I'm sure there are plenty of other games out there that are coming out and people would love to buy on here. You make one compromise and the foundations start to crack. Next it will be 'It's just business.'

Since we won't be able to change GOGs minds, I have an idea everyone might be confortable with, I've posted this in the whichlist under this link:
http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/fair_price_regional_price_badge

Effectivly each fair priced game, should get a badge that tells the user it's fair priced and vice versa regional priced games should get a region price badge as well.

Please support.

Elenarie: When you use PC MASTER RACE shit on the official social media channels, you should be prepared to have that PC MASTER RACE throw shit at you.

Thank you, I thought it was just me.

No, I don't know. I'd also be hoping that the CD PROJEKT would have become a bit beefy enough to publish self, especially considering that there are no hoops, since GOG is of their own family.

No they aren't. CDPR owns GOG and Marcin Iwinski said sometime ago GOG is what helps fund their games. Which is obvious, but he even went as far to say the better GOG does the better they can make their games.

I don't see why they couldn't do it. If region pricing is going to come in for a given game i sure want to know if it was fair or not (rather than publisher sneaking it in) . Voted.

Everyone else please vote for it. Even if they wont change their mind, at least it will be informative for current and future customers.

Ravenvolf: Good idea.
That just seems backhanded to publishers and GOG.
