The DRM-Free Revolution Continues with Big Pre-Orders and Launch Day Releases!

Good news! GOG.com is going to bring you more fantastic launch day releases, preorders, and other exciting new content from some of our favorite developers. We've lined up 3 big titles that we will be bringing to GOG.com in the next couple of months for sale or preorder that we think will be hits with all of our gamers; and we have more equally exciting games coming up soon.

If you've been a member of the site for a long time, you may recall that when we launched sales of The Witcher 2 on GOG.com, we had to add in regional pricing. The game cost different amounts in in the US, the UK, the European Union, and Australia. We're doing something like that once again in order to bring you new titles from fantastic bigger studios. Since we don't accept currencies other than USD on GOG.com right now, we'll be charging the equivalent of the local price in USD for these titles. We wish that we could offer these games at flat prices everywhere in the world, but the decision on pricing is always in our partners' hands, and regional pricing is becoming the standard around the globe. We're doing this because we believe that there's no better way to accomplish our overall goals for DRM-Free gaming and GOG.com. We need more games, devs, and publishers on board to make DRM-Free gaming something that's standard for all of the gaming world!

That brings with it more good news, though! As mentioned, we have three games we're launching soon with regional pricing--two RPGs and a strategy game--and while we can't tell you what they are yet because breaking an NDA has more severe penalties than just getting a noogie, we're confident that you'll be as excited about these games as we are. For a limited time, we will be offering anyone who pre-orders or buys one of them a free game from a selection as a gift from GOG.com, just like we did for The Witcher 2.

If you have any questions, hit us up in the comments below and we'll be happy to answer (to the best of our ability).

EDIT: Since we've answered a lot of the common questions already here (and lest you think that we've ignored you), it may be handy for you to check out the forum thread about this and search for staff answers by clicking this link here. (hat tip to user Eli who reminded us that the feature even exists. :)
Well, if the 3 games are all new ones (2014 AAA titles) I guess aren't much choices, the majority of interesting RPGs for this year are indie ones (even Wasteland 2, Divinity: Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity are indie and already confirmed for release in GOG). Some possibilities are: South Park: The Stick Of Truth, Might and Magic X Legacy (already released, but new), Risen 3, Sacred 3. The Witcher 3 is from GOG's sister company and already confirmed and Dragon Age: Inquisition i guess have almost a zero chance to apopear in GOG (I doubt EA will drop Origin for any of their atual games...)
So GOG, when can we expect the first release under this new policy? It will be nice to move out of speculation and into proper evaluation of the decision.

javihyuga: If those games are the reason, they should cancel this ASAP. I think that most of us own them because of (and only because of) bundles, and even if they are not bad games, they sure aren't worth the fuss.

Bloodygoodgames: I would never buy anything Deep Silver puts out anyway. Not after that disgusting artwork they used (severed woman's torso dripping with blood) on Dead Island: Riptide last year.

A company that is that misogynistic and that clueless is never going to get a penny of my money.
I trust you'd been equally disgusted by the developers' misandry if it had been a male torso?

fluffybuffy: For the RPG, 2 of the 4 :)
Wasteland 2
Torment: Tides of Numenera
Pillars of Eternity
Divinity: Orginal Sin
All indie and already confirmed for release in GOG, not necessity of NDA. Same for The Witcher 3

So a severed male torso would be fine? if so then your sexist...

That one was really... well, a display of bad taste.

Are we absolutly certian its about new games and not old ones?
With all these HD releases
maybe there is a chance for something like that for a title that as previously impossible to get here.
Wild speculation of course.

There are only a few RPG's being released for pc this year, only ones I can think of atm.

- Witcher 3
- Dragon Age 3
- Sacred 3
- South Park: SoT
- Dark Souls II

Can't think of any others for PC, except the MMOS which don't count.

My bets go on Witcher 3 and Sacred 3 / South Park.

Seeing Dark Souls II here would be the biggest surprise and knowing EA they will most probably stick to Steam or even worse Origin.

HGiles: Releasing the news early is good for both sides, yes. Recognizing that is not as common as you'd think. I'm glad that GOG's management can figure that one out. There are many examples of businesses not realizing that.

Just because something is good for more than one group doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. I tend to prefer win-win scenarios, myself.
Didn't say it shouldn't be done.
I'm just realistic enough to recognise that GOG management is smart enough to always release questionable or controversial news as early as possible, simply because they also always expect some outcry and want to have enough time to manage the situation. And generally, it does seem to work.

Some comments say more about the commenter than about what is being commented upon.

Read up on the nature of oppression and you'll discover that it's more complex than a "sauce for the goose" situation. Actions against the historically disempowered versus those against the historically empowered do not have equal valence.

If we're talking about the same promotional art, it looks like someone was trying to sexualize a corpse. If it was just a normal decomposing zombie body - that would be fine for a piece of promotional art for a game about zombies. The one they made... well, I didn't like it :)

Bloodygoodgames: Can you imagine the outcry for Stick of Truth at 60 bucks and WITH regional pricing, making it more like 80-100 bucks for some gamers on here? ROTFL - now this I am looking forward to :)
From my cloudy crystal ball, this is the one hope for rolling back the policy: nobody buys it at the higher regional price, while the game (or title XYZ) sees sales that match the predicted numbers for those markets at the baseline price.

It's going to take a number of region-specific sales losses for publishers to change their policies. The only way to do that is for the customer base to collectively agree that enough is enough, stop buying any region-bumped titles, and start working on their backlog (my own is easily large enough for two or three years of purchase-free gaming). Otherwise, so long as the sales numbers are coming in at the higher prices then they will have no reason to reconsider: "They're bitchin', yet they're still buyin'. Carry on." Note that this applies to titles at any distributor, not just here. Changing it only at gOg doesn't solve the bigger problem.

The ball is in our court.

Oh, and I'll also be laughing hard if a South Park title gets regional pricing. Seems like this is exactly the sort of crap they try to lampoon, so if the publisher embraces it...
