omega64: Steins;Gate is really hard to recommend as a VN. As you have hours of exposition to get through before it gets "exciting".
Slow, yeah, but it makes it detailed. I can't stand the anime's main arc, it's too rushed when compared to the VNs. I guess it's a matter of preference.

Even in the anime you'll need to get through a few episodes of exposition.
I'd say it's eventually worth it, convincing people of that fact is really hard though.
Im one of those who threw in the towel after the first two episodes. Could be worse. Tried watching a few anime which didnt graphically appeal to me - threw them away after first episode...

I love the VN, that doesn't mean the intro isn't too long though. :P
I can't give my opinion on the anime as I haven't seen it myself.

You should watch those.
I tend to prefer silly comedies. With some notable exceptions, I don't think japanese do serious all that well.
And the endings always disappoint.
I'll try one of them.

Watched a bit of Terra Formars.
I don't remember the manga being THIS gory. O_o

How is the second season? Plenty of people thought the first one was one of the most dreadful anime around for a while.....yes gory (if you could find an uncensored copy...)

Rest of the coming season doesnt look promising imho....

The first three were heavily censored. They tone down the censoring after that.
The fight scenes are great.

Something off about the way charachters came across though. Cant quite pinpoint it. The black censoring blotches were a right turnoff.

True, they barely do it in many of the following episodes though. Seems like it's ok to brutally kill the roaches, not ok to brutally kill humans by ripping out their spine and decapitating people with the spine. :P

The uncensored version has been out for a very long time... If you know where to look :P

Done watching the first season, I can see why a lot of people don't like it.
The plot has barely moved forward in 13 episodes.
The fight scenes but not amazing.

Watched Season 2 E1, the fuck is even happening.
Animation got worse, a scene got retold in a worse way for no reason.
Artstyle is entirely different.
Barely if any gore anymore. (a roach's head gets kicked off and there's no blood at all etc.)

There were some things they added compared to season 1:
Fanservice
Random humour
Personality changes to established characters

They turned it into a slice of life series on Mars fighting roaches? O_o
Perhaps this was someone's April fools joke?

Modern (Year 2014-2016 anime) or classic anime overall worth owning?

Non Non Biyori (own S1, playing the heck out of S2 on Crunchyroll). The art, music, character interactions. NO fanservice. NO gratuitous violence. Just four girls (of differing ages) and their families and neighbors living in the middle of nowhere.

I've had fun watching Actually, I Am; despite many viewers claiming that the animators tried to set it up as a harem I enjoyed the comedy aspects of it, as well as the many attempts that the wimpy lead (Asahi Kuromine) in keeping the secrets of several of his classmates. I also liked it when the principal gets her butt kicked.

School-Live is another recent favorite (mainly because I don't want my soul eternally lost by watching High School of the Dead) - an entertaining-turned-tense zombie apocalypse survival series.

Loved Usagi Drop (stay away from the later manga series) - an older anime I know but a calming, realistic series about a thirty-year-old bachelor suddenly becoming the guardian of his six-year-old aunt and coping with all of the day-to-day tasks that comes with it. Makes me wonder if I would be skilled enough to raise my nephew and niece and willing give up my independence if something would happen to my younger sister.

Classic anime worth owning: Hidamari Sketch (own every episode except for the upcoming Hiro and Sae Graduation Arc). A nice calming, classic slice-of-life that came highly recommended from friends and review sites. Place to Place (Acchi Kacchi) is another just for the comedy and character interactions, and Robotech (a classic).

EDIT: How the HECK could I forget the insanity that is Pani Poni Dash?! That's the only anime that I currently own where I prefer the English dub because the voice actors chosen were PERFECT (every other anime except Robotech I watch with subtitles).

Jitsu wa Watashi wa was great, definitely recommend watching it, School Live was fun, didn't really like the actual performances though.

I was unaware Usagi Drop had an anime I only read the manga. When I found it I thought it was a heartwarming touching story.
Then it time skipped and suddenly she was a teenager.
"Well it doesn't mean it'll turn to crap, a skilled writer can still spin a good story out of this..."
Then they gave her an Elektra complex.
"FU*K THIS! I'M OUTTA HERE!"

Months later I came back, skipped the bullshit parts and headed straight for the ending.
I facepalmed so hard I passed out.
