For me, Gintama retained its original humour, well for the most part, till the arc with Kin. I've not seen any of the episodes after that, but is it still that funny, or as with the Kin arc, moved to more of a focus on the drama?

I saw parts of the bake and nise portions of that monogatari series, but I couldn't find anything interesting in it to keep watching.

Another worthwhile comedy anime is "Arakawa under the bridge". I have not yet seen the 2nd season, but the first was good enough.

well, like I said earlier the novels are pretty much divided up into 'seasons', and most of the first 'season' (bake/kizu/nise) is just introducing characters (plus the storylines are more standard/stock). Most of the actual story/character development/meta commentary/etc.. starts in the later 'seasons' that are continuations of the first 'season' arcs.

I think most people who like the series would say that nise is the weakest part of the series and the 'second season' is the peak.

Read and watched Gyo.
It's kind of impressive how badly the anime misses the mark.
It would've been better if they had properly adapted the manga.

...Was such a pain..... even it started okay-ish. Somehow I watched ten episodes but started skipping the transformations after like two or three episodes.

I liked Galaxy Express 999, what I have seen of them at least.
Btooom! seemed good the little I saw. Not my thing but it really looked promising if you are into violence.

Sure, the humour maybe a bit over-the-top/slapstick and may not be to everyone's taste. But if you stick with the series, there are some good fight scenes as well later on in the series, and, believe it or not, the humour gets even better. :))

I doubt I'll finish watching Evangelion. I don't even know what's going on anymore.

I watched it a few years ago. Although the technique is that of modern anime (and it was important to evolve the design quality of all anime), for me it is not a masterpiece... because it's boring.

It wasn't all that boring for me. It just seems like it wants to confuse you at a certain point in the story, which made me lose interest.

Keep watching, then watch the two movies, you'll get everything, and you'll like it. The End of Evangelion is one of the greatest movies ever made, that's basically half the reason to watch the series and the first film.

I have but one, if nobody mentioned it yet.

Cromartie Highschool. I won't say a word about it, but trust me on this one. It's a damn fine comedy.
