awalterj: 2 amazing films by Tomm Moore, the Irish Miyazaki:

The Secret of Kells (trailer)
Interesting, thanks for the hint.
Currently at episode 19 of Escaflowne... They don't make Mecha like this anymore. If they did, I'd probably watch them.
Finished Escaflowne. Good anime, but stupid ending. Would recommend though, especially to Mecha fans.

Gonna rewatch some of my favorite movies next - Ninja Scroll, Asura, Gyo, A Wind named Amnesia, maybe some others too .
Gate - Story about a medieval fantasy world finding a magical gate that brings them to current day Japan. They send an invasion force through with predictable results. Japan sends an expeditionary force through the gate. Predictable results of bringing swords to a gun fight. Main character is an otaku slacker in the JSDF. Currently ongoing and on Hulu.

Food Wars (Shokugeki no Soma) - Series about a teen attending an ultra-top notch culinary school. Standards are extremely strict. Students can wage "Food Wars" against each other to settle disputes. Funny and has some cool recipes/cooking techniques in it. Currently ongoing and on Hulu.

Himouto! Umaru-chan - Story about a brother and sister living together. Brother is a typical working guy. Sister is in high school and your typical perfect student (grades, looks, athletic ability, etc). However, the sister is only that perfect student/person when others are watching. At home she puts on a hamster hoodie and becomes the typical game playing, manga reading, anime watching, soda & snack consuming, geek. Pretty funny so far. Currently ongoing and on Hulu.

Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon - Story about a guy who is trying to become a dungeon adventurer. Every adventurer joins a familia (family) of a god or goddess. He's the only one in his familia. Has a handy way of explaining how lots of people can adventure in the same dungeon without running out of baddies to defeat. First season is finished. Don't know if there'll be more. Available on Hulu.

Sailor Moon Crystal - Retelling of the Sailor Moon story, but with a much more condensed storyline. Covers through Sailor Moon R. Very good animation. There will probably be more seasons, given the series. Available on Hulu.

Older but if anyone likes these two I'd recommend Outbreak Company (premise is a lot like Gate but rather than a military invasion they use a cultural approach (ie, they find the biggest otaku and send him through to teach them all about otaku culture, you can see where this is going)

And No Game No Life

No Game No Life is a surreal comedy that follows Sora and Shiro, shut-in NEET siblings and the online gamer duo behind the legendary username "Kuuhaku." They view the real world as just another lousy game; however, a strange e-mail challenging them to a chess match changes everything—the brother and sister are plunged into an otherworldly realm where they meet Tet, the God of Games.

The mysterious god welcomes Sora and Shiro to Disboard, a world where all forms of conflict—from petty squabbles to the fate of whole countries—are settled not through war, but by way of high-stake games. This system works thanks to a fundamental rule wherein each party must wager something they deem to be of equal value to the other party's wager. In this strange land where the very idea of humanity is reduced to child’s play, the indifferent genius gamer duo of Sora and Shiro have finally found a real reason to keep playing games: to unite the sixteen races of Disboard, defeat Tet, and become the gods of this new, gaming-is-everything world.
I should probably try out food wars. I managed to sit through Yakitate Japan! so I should be able to manage this one:)

I just want No Game No Life to get a second season. ;P
No real closure right now.

Watch Shokugeki No Soma it's great.

While I'm generally fine with a decent amount of ecchi/fanservice, the whole look at us cumming/getting tentacle raped because I ate a piece of food feels a bit too overdone in the first episode so far.

Absolutely hoping for a second season of No game No life though, love the epic moments in that, wonderfully done with the music :3

The first episode is the worst actually. xD
Almost any other part is way less bad.

Elfen Lied

For porn, Bible Black.
I remember when I tried getting into anime. Bible Black was the first one I had checked out. Only thing I'd ever seen on TV was the DBZ and I just couldn't get into it. So I began searching through torrents and Bible Black came up and judging by the name; seemed like something dark and graphic. With that being said, I had no idea it was full on porn and my life has never been the same. lol I was told going in that nudity was fairly common in anime, you can only imagine my surprise at what I saw.

Today I just watch things like Family Guy and Boon Docks. I came to the conclusion that anime was just not for me. But I like the art work style. Then again maybe my first choice was just a bad one considering what I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, it was dark and graphic, but just not quite what I was looking for in terms of.... action?

Try Bleach, but skip all filler episodes they are boring and interrupt the flow of story. And stop at 309.

Update 1: Is there any chance you could tell me what site you got it from? I can't seem to find anyone seeding it.

Assuming 309 is right before the timeskip?

Yep, I couldn't bear to watch Ichigo in that state. Even after 361 it just never felt the same way as it did before. Are you following manga by any chance, how is it over there?

What you watched was Hentai, its not a representation of anime as a whole which is just a medium like any other and depends on how the creators use it to tell a story. If you want to watch something mature and dark I would highly recommend "Monster" which is a psychological mystery thriller and one of the best series I have ever seen in any medium.

That's like watching regular porn and then deciding all movies are like that... Watch Psycho-Pass, that's a great anime, and very good for beginners .

Watched the anime years and years ago.
No longer remember how far I was, read the manga till a few chapters after the timeskip but it lost me.

Watched Spirited Away, I wish I had sooner.
