crdy123: So I just watched Neon Genesis Evangelion (including End of Evangelion) in one sitting, and I just have to say that I was not expecting it to get that dark. I went into it only knowing it was a mecha, and I rather like mechas, so I didn't know what to expect... especially the movie, that had to be one of the most (if not the most) disturbing, sad, and confusing movies I've ever seen. And it was amazing. That ending... wow...

Anyways, I'm still debating whether I like this better than FMA or Code Geass, but I want to know if there's anything like this, because In my opinion, this show is a masterpiece.
Closest thing that I've seen is Puella Magi Madoka Magika. A magical girl show that takes a very different turn several episodes in. It had the most powerful ending I've seen in an anime in recent memory. I haven't seen the film though, not even sure it's out yet.

Wow I don't even remember posting that. I knew it was starting back but I didn't know the exact date, so thanks once again. My Netflix sub just expired and I was looking for something new to watch elsewhere.

Surprised no one mentioned the remake of the granddaddy of modern anime:


Space Battleship Yamato 2199


The 2199 version updates the visuals to modern levels, and fixes a few things in the storyline. It was originally released in 1974, so will definitely feel retro. LOTS of anime and movies have borrowed from this one. Yes, its not the best anime of all time, and some episodes do drag, but still one that should be watched.

Anything by Studio Ghibli, Durarara!, Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion, Ikkitousen, Full Metal Alchemist. That is what I liked most. A friend was crazy about Cowboy Bebop, but I have not seen it yet.
