I've been reading rakujitsu no pathos raw manga on mangazuki raws.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball Z after having finished watching Dragon Ball Super. It has restarted a deep and forgotten passion inside me and I have also started collecting Dragon Ball action figures.

I'm also watching an anime series called Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba. It's pretty damn fantastic IMO. I am thoroughly entertained by all the characters.

Yeah, I've heard good stuff about it even though I only knew of its anime adaption not too long ago, when I came across one of its character fanart. S1 is ending in couple of weeks, but it definitely has the potential to be a good long-running series.

Since I'm making a post here, might as well point this out - a VN that I never thought I would see one day. lol

I hadn't heard of Demon Slayer, but it's funny you should mention DBZ. I just finished re-watching it. Hands down the Cell Games Saga is my favorite part. From then on it all seemed a little forced to me, particularly how I thought Goku's SSJ3 transformation was kinda "meh" in the Majin Buu Saga. Vegito was pretty awesome though.

P.S. Dragonball Super is on my "What to watch list" in the future, but I don't know when I'll actually find the time to start it.

At the risk of being accused of necroing, I thought I'd try and breathe some new life into this thread, so here goes:
1. I had been reading the Fullmetal Alchemist manga for some time. I finished reading it about four months ago and I loved every minute.
2. I'm now watching Dragon Ball Super, and it is awesome!
3. I just bought Hellsing Deluxe Vol. 1 Manga as an early Christmas present to myself. Here's hoping I like it, as it was pretty pricy($44 US.)
4. I'm also watching Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and it keeps surprising me with how good and overall deep it is.

Demon Slayer suffers from overhype but it is a good series. The animation for the anime is amazing and the characters are all likable (sure you will start off hating some characters but everyone except the big bad and his top cronies have redeeming/sympathetic qualities). Its also a very rare modern day manga in that the story is actually quite fast paced. The series itself ended this year I believe (so it doesn't drag its feet like every other manga that made it big to milk for more money). I also thought the ending was quite fitting for the theme of the show which is great.

Dragonball Super is ok. It keeps the hype Goku getting stronger theme which is great but the villains are almost cheap in how strong they are (power scaling becomes insane). The final arc is really enjoyable but the ending was a little eh imo. Its definitely a series for the fans.

There was a rumor that Toriyama was fed up with Dragonball after the cell arc and kind of trolled with a pink villain which is why it isnt as great (although the man has a weird sense of humor which can be seen with Arale so Great Saiyaman fits into his sense of humor). Toriyama did sort of write himself into a corner with the end of the cell arc and needing a strong villain which required the huge saiyan power boosts leaving everyone not named Vegeta or Gohan behind.

I did also check out Tokyo Revengers recently since its getting alot of attention. Its not my cup to tea but I can see why people like it (its an homage to the delinquent-focused stories such as GTO, Crows, etc.)
Demon Slayer now sounds really interesting to me. I don't know when I'll check it out, and whether I'll start with the Manga or the Anime, but I'll get to it in due time, lol. I also had a friend recommend Death Note. The short version is that I've got a pretty big backlog because as well as what I'm watching anime-wise, I'm reading the Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle Manga series after being let down by the fact that the anime stopped inconclusively after season 2 and am on the fourth omnibus(no spoilers, please).

I felt like the animation of both the 1st season and the movie were pretty good, specially in fight scenes. Unlike other anime, which seem pretty stiff unless there's a gag going on, the series felt pretty fluid.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I used to have a lot of fun watching the Dragon Ball series in the 80's and 90's, but I think that this type of anime belongs to that era. Anything after Cell is overkill.
For people that like the Monogatari franchise and DRM free ebooks, Humble Bundle is selling a pretty big bundle that includes multiple manga, light novels and some audio books:

Half of the contents of this bundle don't seem to have ever been bundled before, and only "Colorful Dreams (art book)" from the previous bundle isn't included in this one.

Thanks for pointing that out. I only know the Katanagatari anime, and I thought it was amazing.

I'll second your friend's recommendation of Death Note (either the manga or the anime, both excellent). Semewhat "adjacent" I would also recommend the anime Death Parade. That one is a quicker watch, only 12 (I believe?) episodes.
Thanks for the rec's rjbuffchix! I'll add those to my "what to watch" list

Demon Slayer I would recommend the anime. The animation is beautiful and there isnt that much filler to "bloat" the story like other anime. The studio did a really good job with it. However, if you want to know how the story ends, read the manga since its already completed.

Yeah, Death Note is great but that one I recommend reading the manga although the memes are from the anime. If you like that one-upping brain vs brain type stories, Liar Game is also a good one to check out although lower priority than Death Note.
