I started an account at Funimation's site. I am currently watching Attack on Titan Junior High or something like that. It is basically a parody spinoff in which the characters are depicted as school students and the titans are basically bullies that steal their lunch. They basically spoof some of the more serious moments of the show and each character's habits and the characters are voiced by the same voice actors as in the regular show.

I've mentioned it in the other thread so I'll mention it here. I have been watching Twin Star Exorcists on Crunchyroll and I actually like it overall. I also watched and liked Irregular at Magic High School, Another, Re:Zero, Beautiful Bones, Konosuba, and Grimgar (I think that's the name).

JK41R4: I'm not sure if I should check out the source material first.
I want the live-action to be good but I don't think it'll actually be better than the source, so my advice is to watch the live-action first. If it's good, then great! You can follow up on the source after that. If it's bad, then at least it's less agonizing as you still have the source to look forward to. If you already know the source and watch a bad adaptation, it's going to be painful...

JK41R4: I have to wonder why there would need to be a live action movie adaptation of this in the first place... so, I still have to wonder why they'd want to adapt a(n originally) Japanse work. Is it just part of Hollywood's addiction to adapting anything and everything?
Well, GitS was a big deal back in the day, far ahead of its time, and live-action adaptations from anime/manga/games are pretty common in Japan. Also, GitS served as the inspiration behind several works in the West (Most notably, The Matrix), so it being adapted by Hollywood isn't all that strange. Actually, Spielberg got the rights quite long ago, back in 2008? Anyway, it might be good that it's done in the West because of their budget. The special effects in the trailers are already better than what you would expect if it was a Japanese production. I'm not saying one side can't do better than the other, but one side definitely has more resources to make it better, so as to speak.

infinite9: Grimgar (I think that's the name).
Yup, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. Another LN adaptation that almost certainly will never cover all the volumes, even if it has another season...

Haha, yeah! I can't imagine how longtime fans of long running franchises feel when they see something they love, or their childhood even, butchered in blockbuster format.

Oh yeah, it did serve as the inspiration of quite a few western properties I guess. It would be more strange if it was a less influential property in the west. The additional resources would certainly help towards quality, but of course, bigger budget != better movie. Anyway, guess it's time to wait and see.
Anyone watching Fuuko? and if so what do you think so far?
Watched the first 12 episodes of Knights of Sidonia. Possible minor SPOILERS ahead.

The beautiful hand-drawn cel look shows a high production level, where the environment design was most interesting to me. The art does possess all the ingredients for an immersive world experience, sadly when the story features exploration, it is dealt with too briefly for that particular feel to kick in.

Boy, is the setting two-dimensional and outright depressing. One threat, a whole society dedicated to just one way to deal with it. Sterile everything: social interaction, identity, eroticism. The only time things get lively is during battle scenes: mech cockpit readouts and command center screens display a flurry of vibrant colors. Overall, KoS is too bleak and bland for me to be motivated to see the rest of it.

Are you talking about Clannad? Is that name of character or series?

You beat me to it! KoS is the only one of his works I still haven't watched/read. Still planning to watch the anime though as it got some good praises for its art style from those in the industry, like Hideo Kojima. The depressing setting is kind of expected, it's a common theme across all his works. I would say KoS is the least bleak compared to Blame, Biomega, etc... But if the first 12 episodes can't draw you in, then yeah, it's a good decision to just stop. I've heard that its S2 isn't as good as its S1.

VeTrack:
You might enjoy Knights of Sidonia at least for the art. What I've read of Blame! (still need to get through the whole manga series) sure is the opposite of cheerful too, but it engaged me a lot more. I love when the environment takes center stage, becoming almost a character in itself.

Probably meant Fuuka that started this winter season. :)
-----------------------------------------
Going thru some of this seasons series:

Kemono Friends: Based on now defunct mobage. Animation is made with MMD (high likely) and story is slow paced for 25 minute episodes.
Reading around about this gives lot of mixed signals, some hate (animation) and some like it (characters).
I like it because of charaters.

Nyanko Days: Melts your teeth in 2 minute short episodes, cuteness overload.

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: Miss Kobayashi meets a dragon while she's drunk and she asks from dragon "Want to come to my place?"
KyoAni is handling the animation so characters and overall quality is very good.
At the moment (2 episodes watched) does seem to follow manga without shuffling or jumping around the story.

Also watching Seiren because it has Takayama Kisai's character design which I like a lot. :)

Yeah, I've only seen some screenshots but I can understand where's the praise coming from. It's a blend of cel shading and hand-drawn. I don't know how beautiful it really is but at least, it's a refreshing change from the usual. What stands out was the effort in making their attire and surroundings look worn out and dirty. However, this also means that some of the faces can look too clean or plain out of all that. It'll be interesting to watch one of these days.

Blame's environment can indeed be a big intrigue until, well... you realize how crazy it is. There's a difference between pushing the limits of physical laws, and over-exaggerating it till something doesn't make sense anymore. It might not matter in a fantasy genre but here it does. Are you following any other works?

Oh, that one, the sequel of Suzuka which was quite popular back then.

MiKiL: Nyanko Days: cuteness overload.
Indeed, somewhat reminds me of Nukozuke! I hope that gets animated too.

Hmm, does this anime have a comedic tone? Or is it a straight laced anime with a (potentially?) ridiculous premise?

Cel shading? Maybe it's used in such subtle ways that I can't see it?

Just started to read Blame! proper. Only a few logs in, really like it so far. Will see what I think when I'm through. I'm not regularly watching Anime or reading Manga, and don't know a lot of the series or that many films. Like I said somewhere above, I want to restart and finish Ghost in the Shell, all of the TV series. Oh, and I loved Samurai Champloo!

It does have comedic tone but it doesn't go overboard. It is pretty faithful to manga at the moment so they haven't added or modified the jokes at least for now and probably wont.
First episode pretty much consist Tohru (Dragon) trying to adapt human world and manners, and that of course makes things funny.

I'm bad at analyzing but I hope this helps a bit. X-)

Yeah ment that haha XD

Yeah I been seeing that nyanko days, I noticed these super short episodes are kind of my thing and I am growing on them like the one from last season with the brother who lives with his 4 sisters, Danchigai or something in that name.

same with Comic artist and his assistants. Now that is a pretty cool short show.

Depending on how you look at , the tentacle might be the more obvious one or maybe it's the mech. If you look at [url=http://i.imgur.com/PzpQJp8.png]this, the core should be very apparent. But I can understand where you're coming from, I've seen some that are really well done before.

I just remembered something. Things about the megastructure are only partially hinted at near the end of Blame! It's shown more fully in NOiSE, so if you don't get what I was talking about till then, I'll explain when the time comes.

Right, I've somehow forgotten that... But whenever I see Samurai Champloo mentioned, I just want to say one thing: Sunflowers don't have that distinct of a smell! ;P

Nah, you're good.

JK41R4, it is comedy. Just don't come complaining if you don't find it funny. =P

Yeah, series about mangaka themselves are especially interesting to those who read them.

And about Clannad. If anybody wants to watch something with the feels, Clannad is as good a choice as any.
