Here's the hard truth.

Anime was made for Japanese audiences first and foremost, specifically kids and young adults up to 25 before they all started working 12+ hrs/d at their companies and can't afford the time to watch anymore so there are less animes made for them. Notice how the protagonists are always kids, teens, young adults, or junior workers before 30s. International audiences are a bonus to them, but not their focus.

OP must be in their late 30s or 40s. You're definitely not their target anymore. Anime is not in your niche. And expecting them to cater to your demands as such is a futile effort unless international Xers/early millenials start buying anime subscriptions, Blurays, or start producing Japanese TV shows en masse to get something made for them. This is the fate of all weebs that should've outgrown anime by 35 yos.

As for your other part of your loaded question, there have been good animes released recently as gog2002x and P. Zimerickus mentioned. But you just have to go out of your way to find them because your tastes change as you get older rather than bashing works intentionally released for the main audience like 8-18 yo Japanese kids. Not to mention you prob have rose tinted glasses where everyone of all ages always thinks media made during their prime is better than anything before and after it.

I stopped watching anime 14 yrs ago in early 20s when I realized the above and I'll maybe watch 1-3 shows a year now. Luckily Western anime has improved a lot in recent years and are meant for older adults here. Like Castlevania and Invincible.

QUick question - Do you only watch Anime that are dubbed or subtitled to English, or do you watch Anime that you only find in Japan and are not tranlsated as well?

i will admit i'm at that age where i prefer a anime in english.
my sub reading days are done.
and ask most older anime English speaking fans.. they want good English dubs.

and yes i find that often translation can fail, i have seen stories rewritten due to bad translation XD

one of those moments you hit translate sites with a copy of the manga if it exists Xd and wasting hours on getting the real story.. because the jap version says one thing, the sub says another the dub is just as off... ummmmmm what am i watching.

Main reason why quality of Japanese anime has gone down is because of Western influence.

Too much focus of racial diversity representation and not enough focus on story and character development.

Kaiju no. 8 is a prime example of this. Main character is a scared, wimpy women-worshipping simp.
And all the female characters are tough, strong, independent girl bosses.

Just a very small minority of the Animes back in the days had a high production value.
And back in the days there was a hell of cheap ass stuff and so much mediocrity .

As with every media these days, the amount of very qualified creators and high quality work didn't changed so much compared to the past.
The amount of content in general went through the roof though.

We still got highest quality animation. Last one that set a mark was Attack on Titan.
Going hard on story and world building in the past years would have been Made in Abyss or Bungo Stray Dogs.
And when it comes to dynamic in animation, K will always have a place in my heart.
And for a kids show, a My Hero Academia got a surprisingly dark story line and high quality animation.


And when grumpy old men yells about stuff not holding his attention.
Old stuff was slower in pacing then stuff is today.

Are you saying that the same japanese people that produced some of the best movie/tv shows out there lack maturity because most shows are for kids?
I don't know what you consider popular, since the main anime/manga audience is teenagers but ORB: movements of the Earth comes to mind. If you think it's the typical "teen saves the world", keep watching...

I've started to watch anime somewhat recently and have no rose memories related to it, other than watch some random episodes of Dragon Ball as a kid. It definitely feels that japanese anime produced on 90's and 2000 decade has a more serious tone to it (I mean the prodution, not the show tone). Most of my favorite shows are from 2000 to 2010.
Not sure if it's related to the mass production of shows or just the influences but newer shows, other than a couple that do something diferent (eg made in abyss), they all feel the same, with the same characters and cliches...
Even Frieren, it's mostly more of the same formula. Don't get me wrong, it's more of the same but it's really well done, fantastic even. I usually say that japanese anime can create magic where there is none, meaning, even in crappy stories they can create beautifull pieces of art, and Frieren is a great exemple.

Been watching Legend of Lodoss War (which is from that era you are bragging so much about if you didn't know) and I failed to notice the supposedly excellent art and attention to detail or the well written anime story. Also, if you have any problem with fanservice: watching anime is really not for you.

i buy a expensive laptop.. it's a paper weight in less than a year.. somehow this is a extended warranty and all that broke is a halll effect sensor... yet the support and repairs acting like this warrants 25% of the price.
