I'm pretty sure that archeological findings in the mountain range show there were places to do offerings. But reaching the tops of a range like that one was beyond the technical abilities of humanity until the XVIth century.

Yet, the gods were believed to live in the gorges. But I'd assume that the symbolim of these gorges was stronger than the actual belief that gods were actually there and tangible to mortals. Do not forget only a portion of what happened was recorded ( only the educated thin top layer of the society had access to that ), and only a fraction of what was written made it to us. In the end we know very little , but at least we can be sure that curiosity has been a constant trait in humanity's history.

Absolutely not! That movie is awesome. Most of the Asterix films are great, but this one is quite special, because it's the only one that's not based on any of the comics (albeit still made by the original creators) and its humour is a lot more surreal and weird than pretty much any other story in the franchise.

It's a special film no doubt, with some great laughs though the definitive Asterix films are

Asterix and the Big Fight
Bear in mind these are pretty poor trailers, with some weird sound effects. There seems to be some mixup with the english dubbed versions as well. I've noticed that there are at least two english dubs for Asterix and the Big Fight, and imo the one featured in the trailer above is incredibly poor compared to the one that came with the VHS copy that I own. Not sure what's up with that :P
It also contains the single funniest part of all the films for me : "Excuse me miss, I'm looking for permit no A38" The old man that gets increasingly annoyed thinking that they want to register a galley cracks me up each time XD
The only other part of an Asterix Film that comes close for me is the slippery floor in Asterix in Britain

As far as I know there are many dubbed versions in different German dialects. I think that's funny. :)
