So I'm wondering, didn't any of the ancient Greeks try to climb to the top of Mount of Olympus, to see if the Gods really were up there?

Well, there's the tale of Bellerophon. But since he was apparently shot down or something, nobody else probably dared to climb the mountain after that.

On the same note, did the Greeks ever try to dig down to the center of the earth, to see if Hades is there with his three-headed dog?

Or did humans ever try to fly to Mars, to see if Matt Damon is still there?

Now I think about it more... what about the Egyptian Gods?
They actually seem pretty terrifying.

The difference being that climbing Olympus is actually a humanly possible (though very dangerous) thing.

Yeah they tried (the Russians anyway), at least through the mantle, to the top/beginning of Hades, but they failed
