This time I felt it, clearly... some minutes ago there was a powerful earthquake not too distant from where I live, and I shat myself a little bit...

I watched the lamp on my desk swinging from left to right, I shut the PC down in three seconds and prepared myself to go down the stairs of the apartment building. Then everything ended, but now I'm too excited to think about going to bed...

I can't read Italian, but I hope no one's come to harm.
Sounds like an interesting experience.
The last earthquake I experienced in October 2017 had an epicentre near to where I live. It was at Rio Frio in Granada province in southern Spain and I live about 20km away.

According to reports (in Spanish) it was only 3.2 magnitude, but given the quake was closer to the surface than others locally, it was very noticeable. I was working at my desk at home when it happened, sat in my chair with both feet on the ground. It was a weird sensation as I could feel the vibration up my legs as it was happening, whilst at the same time there was a clear rumble and the windows were rattling around my house. I think my cat was just as surprised, awoken from her usual slumber... :)

Quakes are a frequent occurrence in my part of Spain, but it was probably the first time in 13 years living here that I've actually noticed or 'felt' one as it's happening. There was another quake reported in June 2018 (link in Spanish again) that's even closer to my home, in Loja, which is about 10km from my house. That one registered at 4.1 but was slightly deeper underground, though I don't recall feeling anything.

The worst quake in Spain in recent years was in Lorca, Murcia province, in 2011. A 5.1 that left 9 dead and over 400 injured, also causing considerable damage to the town itself.

Last earthquake I felt was relatively strong for the area where I live, it was around 4.5 on Richter scale and it was the strongest I ever experienced. But what was interesting is that before the ground started shaking, you could here an explosion, so first I though someone's house exploded, but then my desk started shaking for quite a while. Epicenter was just 10 km away.

Those things can be quite scary, glad you're ok, take care.
In Italy. What a shame. Just presumed it was California. Oh well :(

We Indonesian have our fair share of earthquake. One of the quirks living on the ring of fire. The successive Lombok earthquake freshly happened is quite peculiar because rarely an area gets two powerful quakes in a row.

On a personal level, my city is not on a major threat area, but if there a major one -more than 4 scale- happened in nearby areas we could feel it. Last December, while strong, gave impression because it felt for more than 20 seconds at 23.40 in the night. But from all the major and minor earthquakes I've experienced, the most powerful in memories was the 2009 West Java earthquakes. Back then, when waiting for it to be over on the yard, we could really feel and see the earth shaking and wobbling like porridge.

It's terrifying, I can assure you, and it's not even the first time I experienced it.

Italy is one of the most seismic countries in the world, there are a lot of small (and sometimes big) earthquakes every year especially in the most risky-prone regions. I live in a place which is rated "just" in the second riskiest range.

Every now and then I'm reminded once again of my mortality as a frail sack of meat and shit, just to say....

Whenever there's a shake, I am amused at how unprepared I am for like a fire or flood.
The worst was when I was on the john, and my apartment started shaking.

Good to hear! I've never experienced an earthquake, but I can imagine it must be quite scary. I was worried that you guys
would have had to suffer a natural disaster so soon after the bridge collapsing.
The earth is shaking tonight as well... According to the INGV probes, there was a strong shake (5,1 Richter degrees) around 20:00 in the Campobasso province - not too distant from where I live - and new, weaker shakes are going on since...

This time there were damages too, by reading Italian news sites, and my mom called me because they felt the 5,1 quake (I didn't, I was doing the dishes in my kitchen).

Could that be why the bridge in Genoa collapsed?

KingofGnG: Eh?
The bridge me and Cambrey have been referring to (EDIT it is apparently known as "the Morandi Bridge"):

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/15/world/europe/italy-genoa-bridge-collapse.html

But I haven't heard anything about it coinciding with an earthquake.
