Chacranajxy: What's the track record like for Gust games on PC? It's published by Koei Tecmo, right? They're still pretty awful with this sort of thing.

Obviously, it'd be nice to see this on GOG regardless, but I'm not holding my breath.
Gust games on PC before this: 0 (unless you count Story of King Ares - アレス王の物語, that was made for PC-9801 in 1994).
Would be nice to see it here, my PS3 won't live forever.

Depending on how bad the port is I would wait for a good discount though.

Yeah, sadly from what I've heard so far KT ports have left a track record of leaving much to be desired. Then just like most other major Japan based publishers they cling to Steam and/or DRMs of some sort for the most part. Odds are DRM-free builds will be a ways off as usual. :(
I hope they bring all the Atelier games to PC. For that matter, I hope others bring all "Tales of" games to PC as well. We need more good and long running JRPG series here.

TT_TT_TT_TT: Guess what would happen if they would offer a proper port for starters -.-

WBGhiro: Now, now. There's a reason we can't have nice things.
true dat ;)
While I am not that familiar with the Atelier franchise other than the name being mentioned on gaming sites, this is a good business move. It would be a great business move if the older titles got released on GOG and Steam.
Concerning DOA 5, first at least the paid version is only $40 for ROW. Double that price for those of us in Japan. But there is now also a "free" version that allows you to purchase the parts of the game you want. Still expensive. Still not a great model, but it's better than being asked to pay $80 for something that's been available at less than $20 on PS3 for some time. Still wouldn't touch it with a barge pole mind.

As for Atelier Firis, this is great news with just one little annoyance. No Atelier Sophie first. I really hate it when companies decide to release only the future parts of a series instead of starting with the first entry in a particular story line. So if you haven't played Sophie on PS4/Vita you're going to miss out on a chunk of the story when starting with Firis on PC.

As for the series itself, there is a big focus on alchemy. That is gathering ingredients to make new items. Sophie and Firis add a puzzle element to this by having you also piece the ingredients together on a grid. Also bear in mind that Firis only released in Japan recently, and thus as is usual for a Gust title is still riddled with bugs.

Hopefully, they finish patching them before the ROW release =)

FYI, no PS3 version was released for Firis. Only PS4 and Vita.

I thought Atelier games are standalone titles.

Why are publishers evil incarnate?

I would buy them ^^ Hoping Xenogears makes it to PC one day.

Nope. At least the last 8 have been parts of trilogies. Atelier Rorona, Totori, and Meruru comprise the Arland trilogy. Ayesha, Escha & Logy, and Sharlie comprise the Dusk trilogy. Sophie and Firis are part of the Mysterious set. The third part will likely be announced next year.

Have you played any of them? Is skipping a game in the series a spoilerfest or just mildly inconvenient?

As each series kinda happens in its own dimension and travel between those as well as time travel is established in the IOS game, that's pretty much a yes and no. Yes in that you'd be introduced to characters before you should have been and you'll learn about how their path in the specific trilogy. But also no, in that what happens in one trilogy doesn't really affect another. I'm still playing through Sophie myself and have only played the very beginning of Firis, so can't speak for any specific spoilers for that set of games.

While each game is part of a trilogy, as their names suggest they each focus on a new character. Sophie does appear in Firis, but she's not the main character.

Oh, seems like I mixed up the names somehow.
Same problem for my PS4 though and my Vita still has a massive backlog.

so, the first game in the mysterious trilogy is coming out on the pc as well, not just firis.

Nights of Azure is also on the way, which was the more interesting announcement for me.
