Seems its a R9 390 / GTX 970 level card for $200. Also 4-8GB for $200. Real advancement in terms of price / performance. And I think they said its TDP is 75W and not 150+ like the R9 390.

But all that sounds too good to be true...........

Depends on what you want. If you want a card vor VR or 4k gaming, go with the new Nvidia cards (or an heavily overclocked 980 Ti). If you want a cheap card for 1080p in maximum details, go with the RX 480.

Or in other words: You cant compare those cards. The 1080 and 1070 are way more powerful than the AMD card. There are many tech guys and gaming sites that say it's faster than the GTX 980, after they got a look at the core speed on some photo (which would be too good to be true). TDP is kind of a secret. It comes with 1 6-pin, so it'll be less than 150W (75W from slot + 75W from the 6-pin). One tech guy did some funny maths and said something about 90W, many others say 120W.

$200 is for the 4 GB edition. 8 GB edition will be between $229 and $250.

Nvidia, always nvidia. Never had any issues with them, but I do see a fair few posts on intel and amd as graphics processors having problems with certain things, I have no evidence, nor have I ever used them so I cant really say, but I always buy nvidia.

Curious... I have always had ATI video cards, and also never experienced any problems with them. But I've noticed a lot of posts of problems with NVidia, for example I remember that several games on GOG require old driver versions for NVidia to work properly. I guess it's easier to remember instances that validate your purchase.

By the way, if it's as good as it's hyped, the RX480 will be my next video card. Probably the 4GB version, it should be enough for all future games at 1080p.

The RX480 is a fantastic value for money card, exactly what AMD said what they're aiming it, if indeed it can handle VR gaming. AMD's policy is to enlarge market share by making VR able at a lower pricetag. But in my opinion, not only is VR a hype that will stay a niche compared to sitting behind a monitor, the RX480 seems more fitting, like said above, for gaming on 1080p, I guess it can reach a high fps while still maximizing settings.

For me it's a step too high though, I'm hoping for AMD to release a card that can run on the power of the PCI-Express slot without needing an external power cable (<75W). I've built my system (Core i3 2120 and a Radeon HD 6670) to be energy-efficient and I want it to stay that way. I'm looking to upgrade from the 6670, but without replacing my PSU and without power consumption for my system going up a lot.

I'm not very hopeful at the moment though, the only mention in the rumours is about the Polaris 11 (RX480 has Polaris 10 chip) being used for a mobile graphics card using 50 Watt, and I haven't seen any rumours yet of a desktop RX 470 needing less than 75 Watt. I hope AMD has such a card up it's sleeve though, but for now, it's just hope.

I think it mostly boils down to what you have for CPU, and how much money you want to invest.

even if AMD does not beat intel/nvidia with extreme chips at least we know what they will offer for a fraction of the price will almost perform the same, Even today I still miss my AMD rig with the 1090T 8gb ram and my Radeon HD 6970

That thing held up so well and kicked ass till the 3770k and 680 kingpin at the time when I upgraded. I will go back to AMD if they can hit that special spot again :)

There were some rumors about a card that doesn't need any additional power (PCIe only) and has the performance of a R9 380. But I didn't really follow it. And after the RX 480 got revealed, people don't really talk about it anymore :/

I know of the rumours, I'm following all of the news via the Dutch site Tweakers.net, where the forum members notice each other if there's any news. As to the card I want, a PCIe only supplied card, it's just rumours yet. I'll shout out here if I find out more.

VR for the masses. I like it! Now, get it into opensource driver (which should be easy) and I am sold! ;)

yeah i know 1080 and 1070 are more powerful for sure but i think i cant afford it :D but yeah i think nvidia is better right now i have nvidia on my pc but right now i dont know the prices but still i wait for others to try it and we will see XD i agree with you but when i upgrade my pc i usually buy AMD the question for me at least is it worth to buy one with new pc?? well i use to hd one r4670 it was msi i think well i had drivers problems but i still think it was great GPU for 80 euro it was worth the money for sure :)

The RX470 will be aimed at high-resolution gaming, has a TDP of 120 Watt and will need a 6 pin power connector.

The RX460 is designed to be a quiet card, with a TDP of 75 Watt, so it needs power from the PCI Express slot only.

Good news for gamers on a budget and gamers like me who want energy-efficient gaming rigs. The price has yet to be announced, but with the recommended price of the RX480 being $199,- (plus taxes) the RX470 and RX460 will be cheaper still of course.

Well, for me it's cheaper than any relatively new Nvidia card, so to me it's definitely worth it.
Nvidia being such a scumbag company may of-course also influence my choice.
