Ultra.Instinct.: snip
so many triple A games for GOG from Prime
This makes me so happy! DRM-free is finally shown the love and attention it deserves!
avatar
Heretic777: I hope Amazon pays GOG well for all these giveaways.
avatar
Lexor: It also can just the matter of pure advestisement (to let Amazon users find out "what is this GOG?") with no money involved.
No money? Who is paying for the games then?
Epic pays the devs prior the each weekly giveaway.
I hope devs are getting some revenue for their games being given away free on Amazon Prime.

Lexor: Well, I did not judge the deal, I just mentioned such possibility because it can not be ruled out.
avatar
JP4n: We must rule it out as it would be devastating. We must think GOG is getting a very good income, and the deal will be temporary. Then, each to their business.
It seems to me highly probable that Amazon—as one of the world's top ten companies, with a burgeoning interest in multi-media streaming—is simply making a big financial investment in the same vein as Epic: Trying to draw attention to Amazon's gaming franchises like Twitch; its own distribution platform; and possible new things happening on the development front, by dumping truckloads of cash into bumping up their cachet in the video game sphere. GOG, as a fairly niche company in the ecosystem is probably one of the cheaper options for key giveaways. All while trying to make Prime a must-have value proposition for more people, like Netflix is/was.

Relatedly it's in everyone's best interest for the keys to be claimed (except maybe Amazon's, I guess, but no one's losing sleep over that); making things like the GOG Community Giveaway thread an even more important feature for developers and GOG alike I'd think.

JP4n: That would be a horrible deal because people pay Amazon for a subscription, while GOG burns games from its catalog just for such ridiculous advertisement. Many of those games are important.
"Important" is a really loose term, and there are tons of players who don't care about those free games at all.

And the "horrible deal" is not that different from the past GOG Connect. There are games that can be activated free on GOG, and the assumption is that some people who get the free games will later become paying customers.

Obviously that didn't work as intended with Connect, I'm sure not even GOG knows yet the exact outcome of this Prime co-operation.

It should also be noted that there are several platforms involved there, GOG, Epic, some others, you can even count Big Fish Games because there's at least one game from their store every month, even though it's an Amazon Prime download. So it seems as if all these other stores are doing this to get some market share from Steam, as there hasn't been a single Steam game ever in those Prime offerings.

JP4n: Have you considered who will pay full price in the short term for any of the last 4 months selected games? Also, who will keep buying a single game directly to GOG that costs more than $4USD when you can get over 10 GOG games and many more on other PC platforms for such low price?
Well you sure have a point there.
And this is GOG we are talking about, who once upon a time was talking about the risk of devaluing games, and had no discounts over 40%, and even those were rare.

But GOG has long ago decided to get rid of that core value. So whether they devalue games by offering something for free or with enormous discounts here, or have some GOG codes in Prime, is really a technicality.

They no longer care about the whole devaluing issue.
Could anyone please check whether Thronebreaker is still available? The FAQ states that the deal should be valid until November 11th. Maybe it's just a regional thing that I don't see it being available there.

Looks like it's gone. The GOG FAQ doesn't list how long the games are redeemable on Prime Gaming, it lists how long the keys are usable before they expire.

The Giveaway thread has 4 keys left, expiring November 11th. If you meet the criteria you can just ask for one and you'll certainly receive it.

Thanks guys, seems like I'm late then. I'll check out the giveaway thread as suggested. Cheers again!

No worries. If I were you I'd just quickly post your request politely straight away, as they're going pretty steadily—then read through the conditions of the giveaway. There are pretty strict anti-spam rules so don' edit your post (edited posts are summarily ignored, and wait 10 minutes before posting changed or additional requests). The giveaway category Thronebreaker currently falls in to allows for additional game requests within the 1 month cooldown as they're either common or expiring soon. Good luck!

JP4n:
You give me a good point to think about. It is true that at this rythm Gog is giving a lot of games every month for less. I am happy to redeem so many games. With 10€ about 40 games. Even games are 60 or 90 days availables for claiming. So we buy less games in the store, maybe. But more people with prime is discovering gog and this is the clue if we want to believe that gog will rise.

Hope that Luna invest and Amazon pays well.
high rated
Among the games offered on Amazon Prime (https://gaming.amazon.com/home) as of today is "Snakebird Complete", made available on Epic (https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/snakebird-complete-e6f0ae). For those interested, I can report that the game is DRM-free.

Heretic777: I hope Amazon pays GOG well for all these giveaways. Hopefully it will help GOG with its finances going forward. Seems like a good partnership as long as they pay GOG properly. Happy to see more GOG games on Amazon :)
It's also a good way to make GOG more popular, especially considering how popular Amazon is. Imagine a gamer gets a Prime Gaming key for a game they really want, but its on GOG. Welp, no other way than to join us!

This was literally how I found out about GOG lol, I never paid much attention to rhe prime games before but they were giving away Fallout 3 which I wanted to try and I thought "okay let me see what this GOG is".

Same (except it was for Elder Scrolls Oblivion).
Not many people will see 3 letters and think of gaming. Rather ironic the name they began with would be a better natural advert.

"Good old..." sounds like a trusty tool.

GOG doesnt sound like anything. Let alone, game related.
Like to point out if it's not already. 90% of the Prime app games have been DRM free for me. Right now Prime games is my second largest catalog of DRM free games.
