gog2002x: I claimed the Hitman: Absolution - Amazon Prime code for GOG... only to discover that I already owned it as part of a giveaway
This is a known issue regarding a lot of these Prime codes. Since GOG's backend uses unique package IDs for most Prime Gaming codes, and the system doesn't match those against the usual retail packages / games at point of redemption, then you can indeed redeem and waste a Prime code for a game you already own on the platform.

Funny thing is, all the other Prime code GOG games from the past (well, at least the ones from this year. I don't recall about previous years codes), show as owned and even the ones I claimed from this month as well.

It was just Hitman: Absolution that didn't for some reason.

I actually did that with a game from the library book sale once.
I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago and there are half a dozen suburban libraries within 6 miles of me and I tend to visit all of them.
At one point I picked up a game, but was busy that weekend and put it aside, and by sheer coincidence another library was having their sale the next weekend and I found another copy of that game and bought it because I had forgotten I'd gotten it earlier.
So I had two CDs with the same game.
I wound up donating one of them back to the library.

Sadly such games are getting more and more rare to find at the book sales due to the switch to digital downloads and the inclusion of DRM on CDs and DVDs linked to internet accounts so right of first sale no longer applies. Even if you pass the DVD on to somebody else, they can't use it, as I found out with Doom and Mass Effect 3.

I saw an article recently "Steam users have spent $19 billion on games they’ve never played".
I'm part of the problem I'm afraid.

I think that club has a huge membership, even on GOG lol. My "Played" library tag is few and far between. My problem is I can't stick to one game til the end haha. So i got like 50 games installed, with partial playthroughs. Ofc, I end up starting over cause I've forgotten why I stopped or what took place up to the last save heh.

Though I may actually finish Grandia II AE that I'm currently playing. Really enjoying it, so here's hoping I get to the end. :)

I wonder if it counts games that were limited time giveaways they claimed but didn't actually pay for? Also does GoG rely on Galaxy to determine if somebody has played some of the games? A couple of mine are marked as unplayed even though I have played them, I just installed them on an old computer that doesn't support Galaxy.

I only really have one game I spent money on that I didn't play for the longest time. That was "Heroes of Might and Magic", which I got on closeout when a software store was going out of business right when I had a major term paper to work on whose deadline I misunderstood and was much sooner than I thought in my first semester of community college. I put the game aside out of sight so I wouldn't be tempted to waste all my time on the new game instead of doing my homework. The game got lost and I forgot about it and didn't find it again until several years after I graduated when mom was cleaning out the house and found it and called me about it.

The egoism truly knows not many boundaries. There are users who got issues playing a very basic game with super low demand because of their prehistoric PC and the "big mass" is wasting billions of coins on games they never play.

However... this decadent behavior can be seen on almost any aspects of the society... it usually happens if we are increasingly disconnected from each others and just watching our own needs in our daily life. Somehow we want to fill up this "emptiness" caused by the lack of connection with to many attachment we do not need.

Very paradox because, we got the best net ever and there are more phones than humans, yet... it just does not help.

If it helps any, i have something like 900 games here, but i've only played maybe 50. So yeah i totally believe it.

Some are from trades, giveaways and freebies, others are 'that looks cool' and you buy it for the box or concept but never got in the mood or forgot about it. Some you get for completion sake (ex: I got Earthworm Jim, so i might as well get Earthworm Jim 3D....).

Probably a big reason to stop buying games, is you never play most of them.
It is certainly true... even if the numbers may not be accurate, but simply the message is true.

However... there are still much bigger numbers economically "involved"... i mean, in my country the total income from all the taxes a year is in the range of 200 billion and in the US... lets not even think about, the annual taxes are several trillion a year... the coins involved are so huge, it totally will smash the "wasted billions" the gamers ever was spending. On the other hand... many humans in their daily life are struggling even to get 100 additional coins and kinda have to survive somehow... it is just broken and on every end, up and down... there are close to no boundaries.

Needless to say, if they have to pay perhaps 20% of the total tax income for "social stuff", simply coins that is mostly here in order to counter the huge "inequality", it is already asked for "to much".... but nobody should ask me where the other 80% are going to... good question. The gamers? The gamers "wasted coins" on games they barely ever play surely is a matter, but just as an model that can be taken over to something bigger, as a "root cause" of many other wasted resources.

Reminder : Cat Quest II and Midnight Fight Express [GOG codes] are now available on Prime Gaming.
high rated
I noticed that GOG keeps up-to-date list of all previously available games on their FAQ page.
Call of Juarez ended already?
Not listed on Prime's site, but the faq says "Call of Juarez valid until July 27th, 2024".

That's till when claimed keys are valid. Offers end earlier.
