Seems like Amazon is slowly trying to shift Prime Gaming towards their Luna streaming service, away from "Keep them after unsubscribing" games:
- Significantly less of the latter this month and no popular hits (although Endling still seems like a good one).
- "Keep them" games were announced as late as 4 days into the month (though that might be a January thing?), while the list of Luna games was promoted over gaming websites several days before the 1st of the month. People looking for "Prime Games January 2024" would only find articles about the "amazing", "free" Luna games line-up.
- On the Prime Gaming site, info about how long "Keep them" games are going to be available for redeeming has vanished.
- Not directly related, but Prime Video is said to introduce more and mid-series/movie ads to the regular subscription at the end of the month, and if you don't want that, you'll have to pay $3 extra or so. That sounds like they've decided they're being too generous and need to offer less for the same price, in general ...

Who thinks that's a good idea? If you are watching a movie, and then some stupid commercial interrupts it, is there anyone who is positively affected by that, and is considering supporting that product with their money?
If it's a free TV channel, you can kind of accept that, as you are not paying for it, but if that happens with a service you have already bought... wouldn't the most likely outcome be cancelling that service rather than buying that product?

Yeah, it's been a brilliant deal for a year or so. If you pay for the streaming service, you get some free games. Or if you pay for those games, you get access to the streaming service. Either way, you get a lot of free stuff.
Prime Video has been pulling a lot of good stuff from their selection, and if they stop giving those games now, I guess it's time to reconsider being an active customer at some point.
I suppose it does make sense. All streaming services have been charging more for giving less recently, and if Amazon tries to compete as a game distributor, giving all those GOG and Epic games is probably not generating too many purchases through Prime Gaming. GOG Connect didn't work as intended either.
Let's hope they are going through some strange phase now, and next month they will give some good stuff again. But last year they gave not one, but two GOG keys, so this January feels a bit cheap.

Here's a recap for those of you too young to remember the '80s. I was just a little boy growing up back then, but here's what I remember starting when my parents got cable when I was in kindergarten around 1984.
Initially you paid for cable so you didn't have to put up with commercials. Then they started putting commercials in between programs, which everybody accepted as it gave you a chance to goto the bathroom and maybe get a snack or drink instead of watching the commercials.
The channels realized this, so they put a commerical break in the middle as well.
Same result.
So they added another couple of commercial breaks.
Then they introduced "premium" movie channels like Showtime and HBO and slowly started adding more and more commercial breaks. Eventually by the mid '90s most cable channels were indistinguishable from the over-the-air network channels as far as commercials were concerned.
I see the exact same process happening with streaming video right now.

drxenija: It's as if Google Stadia... and Humble Trove had a baby and decided to call after Jeff I guess that might be the next step eventually: No "free" games anymore at all, neither DRM-free nor client-based.

At this rate we're getting the whole Fallout collection with Amazon. https://gg.deals/subscription-news/prime-gaming-march-2024-what-games-are-we-getting/
I'm glad they don't forget about GOG and keep offering game codes from time to time. A few of the games we've gotten justify alone the subscription.
