Myself, I was more of a hardware hacker. In our first computer lab at school (also Windows 3.1 era) we unplugged the keyboard cable of the PC of the girl sitting opposite us, then plugged my keyboard in its place. So she went like "Help, my keyboard is not working." Then we'd type something like "Error corrupt keyboard driver" on our keyboard so it's displayed on her screen and she'd be like "oh noes" and we'd be like "lol".
I know. I was just making a point that timppu was writing (still is?) exploits for Windows 3.1
