I can't get Alpha Centauri to play. I did try to search for this topic, but the "search" engine in the forum wasn't working. Any help would be appreciated.

Nobody will be able to help you if you don't give any details.

Here's AC subforum, there are some topics about technical issues, maybe you'll find answers there: https://www.gog.com/forum/sid_meier_s_alpha_centauri_

Search function works for me, admittedly it is very basic and limited and googling may often provide better results.
Thanks, InkPanther.

When I attempt to launch SMAC through GOG Galaxy, the game states I need a program called Directplay. When I attempt to download directplay, it says I need to restart the computer to finish install. I did this a few times with no success. I looked up "alpha centauri directplay" and found out directplay is deprecated...

So, now I'm here looking through old GOG forum posts noting people are still playing which is great. I need some help getting my HP & Dell laptops running Windows 10 to be able to run SMAC & SMAX.

You can make a few tweaks in the ini file for both SMAC and SMAX.

You can enable DirectPlay in Windows 10, it just requires you to go into Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and open up the "Turn Windows Features on or off" menu option.
-Browse to Legacy Components, and enable DirectPlay from there. Once DirectPlay is enabled, it will stay enabled systemwide until you disable it.

Had to do that exact thing to get MechCommander 1 running in Windows10.
The attached screenshot should help you out.

Thanks, Morrowslant.

That worked on my Dell. For some reason, when I follow your directions down to enabling Directplay under the legacy components, my HP makes me restart and doesn't make the changes.

Glad to hear that it worked on your Dell system.

The changes not applying after a reboot on your HP system makes me suspect that Windows User Account Control (UAC) might be blocking them/UAC might need to be disabled(requires a reboot), or preinstalled HP systems software may be blocking and/or that you also need to enable Legacy Components\DirectPlay with an administrator user account on that HP system.
UAC and/or administrator account. Got it. I'll work on that. Thanks again.
