Has there been any name-calling or rage-posting on this page? Most of it seems like a good-natured, mature discussion, if you ask me.

As an aside though, I've always been in favor of sanctioning the individuals that are misbehaving and breaking the forum rules, rather than closing entire threads down in a blanket manner. But, that's not how the forum moderation seems to work here, sadly ... /shrug

The thing is, the moderation style just feeds back into and re-inforces the bad behavior. People on here often seem to resort to name-calling and abusive posts when they don't like the way a discussion is going, because they think it is likely to derail the thread and get it shut down (which it often does). Thread derailment on here seems to frequently go unpunished - too many threads get shut down because of the same bad actors, who end up getting their way.

I see the thread proliferation as another symptom of the lock-happy moderation on here, tbh. It only serves to encourage people to start new threads, if all other threads on a particular topic have been locked.

If we want to contain discussion on a particular topic to a single thread and reduce proliferation: punish the individuals who are violating the forum CoC by being abusive and derailing threads. Stop blanket-locking threads that are aiming to discuss valid topics relating to the modern games industry.

And, for those that don't like what a particular thread is discussing and don't want to engage in a constructive manner, it's simple - ignore it and don't take part.

What I find both interesting and extremely sad about this thread is that all the criticism about Sweet Baby is that the consulting firm itself is woke DEI stuff. Having worked in this industry, I'm sitting here thinking that these types of consulting firms wouldn't be necessary at all if the AAA studios were just a bit more self-aware.... Because I still remember that job interview with a AAA studio that felt more like I was speed dating due to literally every male in the department getting a turn with me all because of my gender, including people with zero say in the hiring process.

So what I think is actually happening here is that some of the AAA studios are looking at their declining sales. Actually listening to their customers would be far to revolutionary, so they try to broaden their customer base instead. Because they don't listen to existing customers, they aren't going to listen to people they previously wrote off as non-customers....

Except that trying to appeal to everyone and using consulting firms to avoid customer feedback/input is only going to result in games that lack the widespread appeal they're hoping to get, especially if they are using a checklist to make sure that the game has ________. It's like they're all trying to make the next Pokemon Red/Blue without even considering if they would want to play the game they're making.

That's the tricky part: they're not. Your experiences -if they really happened- won't be fixed by painting everything with tacky rainbows or replacing every redhead with a color of person.

The thread is heading in the wrong direction. I wanted to point out that CD Project is following Ubisoft's path. If they want DEI in games, let them give me the option to turn it off in games. Let them release DLC with woke or LGBT and use that money to hire activists. I occasionally buy games on Steam and Ubisoft, and I want GOG to develop. I belong to the minority that will vote with their wallet, so I probably don't count for such a company.

Diversity "checklists", broad 'positive' stereotypes, flat and token characters, tolerance sermons, and wildly exaggerated victim roles ('Potter plots') will happen when authors are unaware of the lived reality of women, POC and LGBTQ+. To consult with minorities and the minoritized, that's a great idea and long overdue. Yet a lot of people who have taken a balanced stance on the illness in the past are now raging against the possible cure. Some are even blaming everything they think is wrong on a single teensy consulting firm with precious little input in precious few games. But it's even worse than that: we've already had several threads on this very forum that were exclusively about hounding down completely unrelated people working in the game industry, just for finding merit in what SBI is doing. Respectfully and reverently, moderation can not possibly twoside this issue.

Companies don't even need to hire the disservice of specialized entities, chanting the DEI mantra, there are dozens of books and guides how to implement DEI-values In addition there are thousands of website and manifestos and signs they could indoctrinate their poor staff with to follow. The only difference is lack of pressure, which is where activism comes into play.

I just wanted to bring some rays of sunshine to this bland discussion. It's so tiring right now with all of those agendas crumbling and mob dancing on the rumble with pitchforks. Soon when I open my fridge there will be "woke" discussion and when I close it asmongold will do react on my microwave.

Anyway my company went full ESG when we entered public as a corp. on US stockmarket. We ar construction company so I've witnessed some shit and lived thru it.
It's depressing, the way those eldrich abomination of corporations are molding us, socioengineering whole generations, repair things that weren't broken and make the planet on their image.

I'm almost sure I wont be able to buy house soon, but hey at least som promile minority will have the right to display their kinks without fear of judgement.
