Okay so a friend contacted me and wanted me to fix some virus on her laptop and it was simple thing to do so I said yes.... Shouldn't of said it by the state of this thing!

Background-

Its a HP Pro-Book she bought online.
Worked like a charm from the get go.
The security tag is ripped off at the bottom of the thing.
When I booted it, it told me Windows is not genuine 0xC004F032.
On the desktop on the bottom right it says "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine"
Okay.... I tried going online but every site is not trusted and wont load correctly!

I'm totally lost on this thing. I was going to just do a fresh install but no IOS image on the computer so it looks like it was installed with a disk. Want to just say fuck it and give it back or install Mint......

Theres nothing installed on the laptop but its too clean. Had Comoco and McAfree or whatever its called and I uninstalled those programs. Any suggestions other then I shouldnt of said yes?

Saying yes was the right thing, you should always say yes to girls.

Easiest way if she doesn't have any important stuff or if it's backed up is to do a factory restore.

I'm assuming this HP probably has a factory default image you can restore to.

Find out the exact model and Google it, it's usually a series of key presses during boot to enter the restore screen.

Most of the times it is an extra partition on the HDD, but if the person reinstalling W7 reformatted the HDD, it is gone.

You shouldn't have to, it really sounds like some sort of security software installed or some setting.

Does it work OK with IE?

BTW, if all you want to do is activate Windows then contact me and I'll give you the details.

So this is my guess-
Original owner didn't know how to do a factory reset and bought a cheap copy that was bogus and formatted the whole thing....
