Anyone managed to get this working properly nowadays?

I remember this used to work a few years ago. I had even completed the Marine campaign just fine. Now I get a "Direct3D failed to initialize" message.

Managed to launch it with the -w command, but I'm not a fan of windowed gameplay.

No fixes on the [relatively dead] game-specific forum.

Any ideas?
Just tried it and it ran fine on my PC:

Windows 10

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X
GPU: Radeon RX 580

Thanks for posting.

Yeah, I was told in private as well.

It must be the newer cards that don't work with it I guess.
They just updated this a few years ago to run well on modern systems, would be very surprising if it had a consistent issue. Did you check PC Gaming Wiki?

So what is your GPU then? (so that I know not to buy it in the future)

Not sure if dgVoodoo2 or somesuch could help here, I presume they are generally for older games than what AvP is.

The newer versions of dgVoodoo can emulate DirectX too, greatly widening its coverage.

Yeah but was it so it does that mainly for some quite old DirectX versions?

I recall I tried to use it with some more recent (like directx 9, maybe 8, not sure) GOG game one or two months ago to fix the graphics issues it had, but it wouldn't activate (ie. I didn't get the dgVoodoo2 watermark etc.). I kinda presumed it is because the game is "too new" for dgVoodoo2, or something. Might be I just misunderstood something though.

Oh and I have no idea what DirectX version AvP Classic uses. I guess it doesn't hurt to try dgVoodoo2, either way. The worst thing that could happen is that it doesn't work. :)

DX9, which means you can also use DXVK if you have issues, not only dgVoodoo2.
So, here's an update:

I don't know if it's the new rig's "fault" (2060RTX), but the game would only launch if in windowed mode, suggesting it's a setting of mine (tried a few different ones to no avail). So, I looked around and also tried dgVoodoo2, which I couldn't get to work for AvP (though I did use it successfully for Vampires: The Masquerade - Redemption).

I found out about a mod by sirlemonhead, called AVPX. http://homepage.eircom.net/~duncandsl/avp/

After trying the AVPX mod, AvP works fine.

Didn't know about DXVK. I'll test that too. Edit: turns out that's for Linux from what I read.

It's technically for Wine, which is a Windows compatibility layer for Linux. However, if you download the latest release and unpack it, you'll notice there are several dll files inside. Copy those dlls (32bit or 64bit, depending on the game - for AvP Classic it will be the 32bit ones, I think) next to the game's executable and it will work under Windows as well. See here. Some game may refuse to load it, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot.
Tested on a Surface tablet. Game works fine.

Only thing left to test is the monitor on my main rig.
Were there any fixes for the suspect mouse movement especially when you zoomed in with the Predator.

Played with AvPx a Predator mission. Everything was working fine.

As for the vanilla Gog version, I only played a bit in windowed mode (Marine and Alien) and had no problems, other than having to play it in windowed mode. Granted I didn't try Predator on vanilla.
Ran it on my computer not too long ago. The perception of the alien view was a little too much to handle after not touching this for 20 years, and that was my favorite campaign to play overall. Might have to give it another try soon.
