I'm going to see the slide show presentation. When I watched Prometheus I was a bit disappointed. Too many questions, and not many answers. Convenant was different, I did like it, but I did not see a strong relationship between Convenat and Prometheus, and therefore, I did not see the answers I wanted to see.

I think that some years ago I watched some Alien short films that were quite good. I think that they were Alien 40th anniversary short films but I'm not sure

Count me curious, had to check IMDB first to see whether or not Ridley Scott was involved and was glad to see it has a different director.

After Alien and Aliens movies, I stopped watching future releases I believe. I wonder if I missed out on some good stuff.

I also haven't played any of the pc games, though Alien: Isolation Collection is on my wishlist since it's on GOG. I'm just not a big fan of horror games, but i do want to get it since it sorta reminds me of the old movies. Just not sure my heart can take the fright these days haha. I never passed out while playing a game (at least not from fear lol), but there's always a 1st time. =P

So how much did I really miss out on as far as movies? (this is the bigger question)

And how much did I miss out on as far as pc games? (not as big of a question for me)

I think Aliens 3 is kind of ok on it's own (though certianly not great either). I feel like the worst thing about it is that it kinda ruins Aliens, which is a far superior movie. I haven't seen Resurrection.
The first AvP movie I actually rather like, but if you're hoping for something on the level of the original AvP comic, you'll be disappointed. You have to approach it as a fun, dumb popcorn flick. If you're ok with that, it's probably the third best (or at least most enjoyable) film in both franchises.
AvP 2: Requiem is one of the worst things I've seen in a theatre, and believe me, that is not a statement I make lightly. It basically reduces both franchises to a cheap B-movie teen slasher. And a very, very bad one at that. It's kind of amazing what a low it is for both Aliens and Predator.
Prometheus is an astoundingly stupid movie, but it was a lot of fun to watch because the contrast between how dumb it is, and how seriously it takes itself makes it quite hilarious. Plus, it is a damn nice looking movie with some very good music. Still, I never felt inclined to watch the follow-up, Covenant.

I know this will sound insane to most people, but really for my money the best entry in the Alien series after Aliens franchise was... the Superman vs Aliens comics. It shouldn't work, but it does. It really is a pity Disney and not Warner now owns Aliens, because an adaptation of that, even only in animation, could have been jaw-dropping.

"Good stuff" is difficult to discuss, because it's up to the individual's taste and patience. There's some good bits and bad bits scattered amongst the rest of the franchise, but in my opinion the first two still stand out as clear winners even taking into account the "rubber suit" issues of the first and the production goofs of the second. (Seriously, don't go reading about movie mistakes in Aliens or it'll tarnish the film - you can't unsee errors in a favourite film once you notice them).

You're likely going to find it disappointing if you go into watching the others whilst trying to measure it against the originals. I know it's difficult, but you sort of have to disconnect and rather walking in expecting a repeat excellent Alien/s experience you have to just let the films happen with as little bias as possible and see if it stands on its own. Try thinking more along the lines of "it's a film with Xenomorphs" rather than "it's an Alien film" and you might find yourself cutting the sequels and prequels more slack. Knowing a little about the production problems some films had (like Alien 3) will also soften your mood about it.

Honestly, they're all worth a watch, even the AvPs, if only once. They're not stinkers, there's a lot of production value to them all, but they're often at best diamonds in the rough. Lots of potential wasted.

I will be seeing Romulus at the cinema although I have misgivings of the casting and dialogue. I'm sure the jumpscares and horror aspects will be fun to watch but the teens in trouble stuff will likely wear thin unless they're dispatched very quickly in the film (unlikely - they'll be annoying right to the end).

Calling this movie trash is an insult to trash itself.

This movie is just a pathetic spinoff trying to make money from the goodwill earned by previous alien movies.

They need to make series or trilogy base of the earth wars comics

They should just make Alien: Isolation adaptation without changing ANYTHING from the game.
(Because well, we know what happens when they decide to 'update it to modern standards' when making game adaptations.)

As some people joke: "Alien: Isolation is the best Alien movie after Alien and Aliens." :P

At this point it's pretty much too late to do an adaptation of Isolation, given that they're already pilfered the "Alien on a Space Station" angle to do Romulus.

I think a lot of movies & TV today rely on CGI as the equal of jingling keys before a toddler.

I think there is still room for practical effects, hence the moniker of special.
And I think a lot of them are taking themselves entirely too seriously or become so self-referential as to become entirely lost to anyone trying to get into them.

I do think that there are many Doctor Who serials from the Black & White era which hold up wonderfully; Tomb of the Cyberman, for example. I think Mobile Suit Gundam, even with the visible animation cels has a strong message which is applicable today. Heck, I think the original The Fly is a classic of the body horror genre.
