Alien 3 has 2 cuts that are equally terrible, but Ripley in both of them joins Laurie from Halloween H20 in taking extreme measures to make doubly sure the killer never EVER comes back, only to be subverted in the very next movie called "Resurrection". In both cases, that final movie is so bad that the sequel hook (android rebellion for Alien) is completely ignored in favor of a crazy old man (Ridley Scott/Rob Zombie) taking things back to the beginning.

The worst thing about Alien 3 is how the Xenomorph has a sickly green glow which isn't even in the script, it's just a side-effect of the utterly botched green-screen filming for the costumed dog. Trying to avoid showing the Xeno results in way too many monster-POV-shots and the prisoners have 2 separate pep-talks with identical dialogue because I guess they forgot they already filmed that scene once.

Alien Resurrection is somehow an even bigger production disaster with bad comedy throughout and a twist villain straight out of an insane incest hentai which dies, not kidding, just like a Jason X victim.

If you're really going to watch them all, you might as well get around to Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, which I warn you is the trashiest movie to ever feature either creature. There's hackneyed bully dynamics more at home in a bad 80's movie, bimbos screeching badly enough to make them 0/10s, sudden ultra-gore out of nowhere, the main villain uses his face to rape pregnant women, and the shaky-cam conspires with bad lighting so you don't see any action.

I remain thoroughly underwhelmed.

I'm not convinced I can feel anything for new films any more. So if it does end up in the cinema, and I have a passing fancy of seeing it, I'll go and watch it without any kind of hype or influence by commenters.

Usually I end up feeling meh about it all by myself, but whatever. It'll be OK or it won't.

Oh, I can still have as much fun with new movies as ever. Ghostbusters Afterlife had me feeling almost like a kid again, Top Gun Maverick is up there with some of the best action films I've seen, Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning was the best that franchise has been in years, hell maybe since the first film. Belfast was a really solid drama, and I enjoyed all of Branagh's Poirot movies. And that's just some of them, off the top of my head.

But this... this is just doing nothing for me. So far it looks like the first Alien, only without Sigourney Weaver, John Hurt, Ian Holm or the wonderfuly mysterious and creepy alien ship, and with very bland visuals. Instead of selling me on the movie, the trailer makes me think I'd be better off staying home and watching the first film again. And I'm not even that big of a fan of the first one.

Personally, I prefer Top Gun Maverick Hunter, where 100s of years in the future, the new protagonist finds a capsule that has blueprints for his jet by the creator of the F14 or whoever, and he uses it to upgrade it with new powers that were originally designed for it, in spite of the creator being unable to predict such a need, but still seeding the world with these capsules at various points.

Alien but now with dumb young people! Yeah, no, they've already lost me. This franchise has remained cursed for decades now. Isolation seems like a right fluke all things considered, and I'd be very surprised if we saw something like it ever again.

I wonder if part of the anger towards Prometheus comes how it nullifies the big world religions, ie. we are mere test specimen of a superior alien species, not creations of real eternal gods etc.? Yes yes I am sure there are other reasons not to like the movie even by atheists, but just thinking when someone else here complained about exactly that plot device, ie. humans are created by aliens (not gods)?

I just liked the atmosphere and visuals of the movie, and it was kinda humbling how humans, who think they are the pinnacle creations of the universe, were just failed test subjects of a greater alien race who didn't even feel humans had right to exist, anymore than humans care for ants.
Judging by the trailer, the dialogue is dumb and the actors unconvincing.

"There's something in the water!"
- "What do you mean there is something in the water?"
"I mean there is something in the water!!!"
- "Oh you mean there is something in the water?!?"
- "Yes, there is something in the water!"
- "So just to be clear, there is something in the water, right?!?"

Sounds like a MadTV sketch.

Some IPs should never be rebooted. This is one of those. This is supposedly set between Alien 1 and 2 (Aliens).

I personally wanted a 3rd movie with David the android.

No, we'll get Marvin (the Android) in the (original) bodysuit, and have to find someone to speak convincingly into a vocoder. The Aliens will never stand a chance.

I don't know, not being a person of any particular faith. It seems like such a science fiction cliche to me, I don't see why anybody would be upset by such a premise. Then again, I don't understand why devout people got upset about Harry Potter. *shrug*

I thoroughly appreciated the opening scene much more now that I know more about ancient Mesopotamian mythology. That opening sequence makes so much more sense now.

In itself the last trailer is slightly better, but it's still more of the same "Alien, but instead of Sigourney Weaver, Ian Holm and John Hurt we have annoying teens!". There's just nothing about this that seems new or interesting, it really looks like the Aliens franchise version of Force Awakens - after terrible prequels an attempt to course correct by basically making a bland, inferior copy of the first movie with characters no one is going to like or care about.

Ew, no. David was by far the worst part of an otherwise deeply flawed movie. All he did was murder the momentum from the previous movie so he can be a less interesting antagonist than the Engineers and take advantage of the new characters being even dumber.

OK, don't have to see it now. With the over-length death & peril scenes depicted we really don't have to care about nor really wonder who will live and die.

Not digging at you, it's just whoever edited/storyboarded that trailer has no idea how to drum up interest in a film without spoiling key scenes and ruining plot.
