MysterD: Yup, Control and then it's DLC were an Epic exclusive for a year or so. Didn't launch w/ Achievements there.

I'd have to check and all - but I'm not sure if Achievements ever got added there. I do have Control and its DLC's on Epic.
I only have the version that was given away (only the base game I think) and I checked the store page, no achievements. It's just ironic that the version that released first and was an exclusive lacks a feature every other version has lol

Just watched another review and...

... I keep hearing "initial high score reviews are stranger than 'Bright Falls,'" "it's a walking simulator," and "Alan Wake isn't the main character of Alan Wake II."

I feel pretty comfortable at this point saying this game isn't for me (and I am a fan of Alan Wake); I'd rather play a Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes game for what I've seen and heard of Alan Wake II.

As of late this has been the case -- upon release high reviews drive sales, but as time passes and more reviews come to light, a better more realistic picture of the product comes into view. And like so many entertainments of the last few years, Alan Wake II participates in the ESG-loving bait-and-switch.

It's sad to see virtue weaponized by social-engineering financiers. It's also sad to watch a company that started as a rebel...

... descend into partnership with the devil (MS) and from that point on seemingly become part of "the system" (but then Rockstar has fallen too). I guess Max Payne is now truly Max ESG. (and "no," I am not against diversity or inclusion)

Moreso than Alan Wake, Remedy seems lost in The Dark World. But maybe they made a deal with the devil to make it through the 2024 crash?

I am trying to recall, but in that era when Control launched on Epic, I'm not sure if Epic actually supported Achievements back then.

Anyone remember?

Control launched in August 2019, I made my Epic account on April 2020. I only played games that are freebies there, and they had no achievements. Idk if any were added later or never did.

Not sure if I was clear or not.

Trying to re-word and expand on this.

What I mean was: I'm not sure, but I don't even think the entire Epic Game Launcher (EGL) and its Services even had an Achievement system for EOS (Epic Online Services) yet, back when Control (Epic version) launched.

Could be why there wasn't any at launch for Control on Epic.

EDIT - Still wonder why Remedy never updated it there either w/ Achievements, since that's supported now on EOS and EGL. [shrug]

Ah I see. Yeah, that's possibly it. It's honestly kinda weird for them to add achievement support super late. I don't remember the exact date EGS start adding them though.

Just Googled.

Yep, they (Epic) added Achievement support to the Epic Game Launcher in very late 2021:

That explains probably why Control: Epic-version didn't have it there, as that game hit Epic in 2019.

I assume near the end you are referring to either Blackrock or Vanguard. Those two are the big ones pushing this ESG CRAP, including over in Hollywood. They are also willing to let Disney and others lose money for it because you're angry and shouting about it right?
Good, use that anger to demand an audit of those companies to make sure they are paying their fair share of taxes in the US and elsewhere and they will first double down on ESG. But you persever and they will crack and stop doing it to cover their ass and lobby the US govt. and elsewhere not to be audited.

neumi5694: It could be (pure speculation) that their version + DLCs has achievements, but the Complete Edition doesn't.
Since I own the regular version on Epic I can confirm that it does not have achievements.

CymTyr: Part of the problem is people in the US feel that US politics dictate things around the world. Remedy is not a US company.

Breja: Yeah, because everyone here is from the US :D Please, person from the US, tell us people from other countries more about the world outside the US :D
Most people from the US can't even find your country on a map. I'm not even joking.

foad01: Most Tomb Raider games don't make sense because Lara Croft was imprisoned and killed in Shadow Warrior. This is basically the same nonsense.
avatar
MarkoH01: Thanks for the Tomb Raider Spoiler :(
That was a easter egg in the original Shadow Warrior.
As per unbiased reviews you play as Alan Wake in only 40% of the game.
Rest of the time, you are playing as the diversity black female cop in Alan Wake 2.
And the ending is a sequel bait.

MAJOR FACEPALM

Your choice of words lets me suspect that your view is not completely unbiased.

Part 1 had an an open ending as well, that's just how these games are written. Btw, in Monkey Island: Le Chucks Revenge the player takes the role of Guybrush Threepwood, not LeChuck.
And in the Carmen Santiago games you never play as Carmen.

You told us nothing new here, with all the reviews and previews, didn't you know in advance that the cop would play a major role? Why buy it anyway and then be disappointed?

That would only be a good comparison if you played as LeChuck in the first game.

Not that I'm taking sides. I loved "Alan Wake" and hope the new one comes here whoever I'm playing as.

Doomguy died in Duke 3D and Duke died in Blood.

The plot thickens....
