Yeah, the only hole in the theory for the eagles was because Sauron watched the skies and would have sent the witch king and nazgul to kill them blah blah. Eagles would've been faster though.

Gandalf never summoned any Griffons, they do not exist in MIddle Earth. Nor did he summon a Gryphon (see spelling), by the 4th age they were almost extinct.

Let's ignore for a moment that you seem to have imagined lion's paws and tails on those eagles. Even if Sauron didn't have a flock of Nazgul at his disposal to guard the skies, whichever eagle was carrying Frodo would be tempted exactly like Boromir and become an even more terrifying force of evil than Galadriel. Frodo is the ringbearer because as a rich hobbit, he wants for nothing in his fancy hole full of inheritance and relaxation; the only power the One Ring can offer him is a way to disappear, which of course is a trap exposing him to Sauron.

So yes, a low-key hiking trip was the ONLY way it would have worked.

Why stop there? Why not have Gandalf summon a bunch of bombing runs and blow up the eye of Sauron? He's magic, he can do anything. I'm sure eh can bild a bonch off B-52 Bobmers and haev Modor on ist knese in no thyme.

I think the big issue with the eagles was:
1) they are powerful and Gandalf cant summon them willy-nilly
2) destroying the ring was a stealth mission so flying to mount doom would have made the mission obvious
3) there was the risk of the eagles getting corrupted by the ring

But a Gollum based video game really doesnt spark confidence, especially since what we have seen of the game is not very good.

i know /sarcasm (and my post was toung in cheak as well), but in fact Middle Earth is a low magic realm. There are many powerful and fantastic creatures, but there is actually very little use of magic. Most of what Gandalf does is trickery and parlour tricks more than anything else. (The films have a bit more of what you can call magic than the books, but that is because it needs to be spectacular on film).

My sarcasm was more from people basically being overly critical of wishy washy things, as if they're dying to write fan fiction and hoping it was canon instead of simply writing fan fiction (and also hoping it was canon). Like nitpicking over plot holes, perceived or real, in a 70 year old book is the drive they need in life.

While Gollum plays an important role in the story, it would not be accurate to call him the savior of Middle Earth. In fact, his actions throughout the story are often motivated by his desire for the One Ring, and he ultimately plays a key role in its destruction, but not as a savior. It is the combined efforts of many characters, including Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, and Gandalf, that ultimately lead to the defeat of Sauron and the salvation of Middle Earth.

Sauron had flying fellbeasts ridden by Nazguls.. the eagles (if they even accepted the mission) wouldn't have stood a chance against them.
Plus the hobbits would have been spotted from afar, so goodbye secret mission to Mount Doom and hello hordes of archers.
