Adventure Game Studio (AGS) first released back in 1997 is an open source game engine that facilitates creating point and click adventures in the style of LucasArts and Sierra. Many of my favorite games over the past decade have been made in this game engine and most of my most anticipated games are also made in AGS. In 1999 the first complete game made in AGS was released and to celebrate the 25th anniversary I've decided to create this topic to highlight the commercial games made in the engine available on GOG as well as to highlight the games I'd like to see released here.

One of the great things about AGS is that games made in that engine can be played through the ScummVM emulator which means you can play them on a wide variety of devices. It also means that AGS games on Steam do not require the client to run, meaning all AGS games are essentially DRM-Free.

However, it would still be nice to see as many release on GOG as possible, especially the high-profile ones. Here is a list of AGS games that have been released on GOG so far with links to their store pages:

AGS games released on GOG:
Beer! (2018, Crystal Shard)
Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard (2022, WatchDaToast / Assemble Entertainment)

Technobabylon (2015, Technocrat Games / Wadjet Eye Games)
Time Gentlemen, Please! + Ben There, Dan That! (2009, Size 5 Games, Contains Ben There, Dan That!, Time Gentlemen, Please!)
Unavowed (2018, Wadjet Eye Games)
Whispers of a Machine (2019, Clifftop Games / Raw Fury)
Zniw Adventure (2020, Azure Mountain / Kurki.games)

For games that haven't been released on GOG yet, I'll only be tracking commercial games as the number of freeware games is too large and there is arguably less incentive to release them here. Most of these games do have a DRM-Free option on itch.io or Fireflower Games, however there are still some notable ones exclusive to Steam.

Good post. AGS is definitely one of my favourite engines. Since ScummVM added support, it means a lot of popular AGS games can be played on Andoid phones / tablets. I know it's a big undertaking to catalogue the lot, but there's hundreds (if not thousands) of decent free ones including whole series, eg:-

- 5 Days A Stranger series (link)
- Ben Jordan Collection (link)
- Original Downfall (2009) was made freeware by Harvester Games (their old website is gone but the game is still (legally) up for Download on Internet Archive.
- Too many to list on the main AGS website including VGA remakes of The Black Cauldron & Kings Quest 1-3.

Thank you for the list .
Well, I'm always all for adding more point & clicks to the catalogue. But I'm not sure what the chances are, unless they have "interactive sauce pouring sections" or incest. This is a curated store, after all.
Great thread llamas, thank you.

Agreed. Some of the free ones are some of my favorites. I may add a list of notable freeware ones to the post in a bit. I've undertaken the goal of playing through an AGS game every week for the past few weeks. I'm on week six now and have mostly been playing freeware ones. I did finish An English Haunting last week and recommend that along with the other Postmodern Adventure games including the free ones. Hopefully we'll see them on GOG at some point.
A few new games added to the list:

7 Meters Away. Oscar and the Cell of the Soul (2024-08-12, Team Disaster) No Wishlist Entry (Announced for itch.io, Steam)
Autumn of Death: Black Friday II (2022, DanVzare) No Wishlist Entry (Available on itch.io)
44 the Jail (2024, Marcial Gutierrez) No Wishlist Entry (Available on itch.io, Steam)
Flight from the Robots (2022, Peter G. Bouillon) No Wishlist Entry (Available on itch.io)
Graceward (2022, Thinking of Cremation?) No Wishlist Entry (Available on itch.io, Steam)

Also for any other Canadians here I recommend checking out the two 2034 A.C. (After Canada) freeware games (Available on the Adventure Game Studio website). There's a lot of good cultural references in them.
Oh, thank you for this list. I just (re-) discovered some games which were already released on GOG and I didn't notice.

edit:
Why doesn't GOG do these highlights anymore themselves. Isn't that what their blog is for?

After all, In the "about gog.com" section they brag:

Every game deserves to shine
As much attention we're giving to picking great games, the same goes for highlighting them on GOG - treating each release as a celebration.
The reality is a different one.

Right, I've been around long enough to remember GOGMixes which would also have been a great place to make this list.
Great list, you helped me discover a few new adventure games. :D
A small update: It seems that I completely missed one AGS game released on GOG back in June: Brownie's Adventure. Even though the first game was only released earlier this year, a sequel has already been released last week on Steam. Gopefully that means the sequel will be released here shortly.

Magret & FaceDeBouc "The buddy-buddy case" released last month also got released on itch.io and has received some positive reviews.

Finally my most anticipated AGS release The Crimson Diamond comes out next week, unfortunately not on GOG.
Billy Masters Was Right (available on itch) is a nice one. Free and DRM-free.

100%! I really hope we see all of Postmodern Adventure's games here eventually.

I highly recommend playing through The Crimson Diamond if you haven't yet. It's really something special. It will hopefully come to GOG eventually, but it is definitely in serious contention for AGS game of the year.

In other highly unexpected news, a new King's Quest fan game just released called It Takes Two to Tangle. I haven't got a chance to try it yet, but the production values look amazing.
