It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

adaliabooks: So, just been doing some tests with the account page to see what's possible.

Changing games per page isn't going to be as easy as I'd hoped (there is an option there for productsPerPage, but changing it does nothing) but I'll just use the same method I used on the reviews and it should work.

As for looks, I've attached some pictures. The first two are trying to emulate the old style shelf more (the second one I've used a couple of legacy covers too), the third one is just reimplementing the full background and getting rid of the name card so it's just a picture.

Option three is probably easier (haven't spoken to Barefoot about the legacy stuff yet, just playing around with the stuff from my wiki page, but I'm not sure new games will have legacy covers, and squishing them doesn't look great), but doesn't quite look as nice as the old shelf did.

What do you all think?
I, for one, would use this feature. I'd love a return to the old bookshelf page, especially one that displays everything on one page because I can't stand clicking through. Looking forward to manual sorting as well, although I know its already on your list and probably a fair ways off.

As to which one I prefer, I'd like the first or second option best but only if the aspect ratios were correct. Knowing that there probably aren't the same type of images for newer games, I'd go with option 3. As long as it is consistent and uses the correct aspect ratios for the pictures. That's my biggest input I can give you.

Oh I have a suggestion that will probably be a breeze to implement. Please have an option to always hide the "Try GOG Galaxy" banner on the main page and on the Library page. I don't want to see it anywhere on the site. It's obnoxious.

Already exists: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/community_feature_request_hide_button

Also hides the "Try Galaxy" button on each game's download window.

Yeah, games per page is certainly on the list, shouldn't be too difficult to manage.

Yeah, that's the thing. I can probably do the old ones (depending on what info is available to link the pictures to games, as the images are just strings of letters and numbers) but the newer ones won't work like that.. which is why I think going with option three and trying to make it look as much like a shelf as possible is the best way to go.

As mrkgnao has suggested, such a script already exists. It might be worth incorporating a version of it into Fundamentals at some point though...

adaliabooks: It might not work exactly how the old one used to, but I've got some ideas that should work and not be too fiddly to use.
I would [very much like] to have a shelf with boxes back on it, all on one page. :)

Is option three in this post the kind of thing you mean for boxes?
All on one page will certainly be possible and it's probably the next planned feature, along with some restyling options.

Heck yes.

I mean, it's a crying shame GOG killed the properly ratio-d box art, but I'd take what you have over that clinical box of shit they have now.

My real question is, if one bloke in Scotland can ram this together, why is it so difficult for GOG to just give us our shelf back themselves? It's just so infuriating.

I suspect it is not difficult for gog. They just have no interest in doing it.

I have no idea... being charitable I would say all their staff are working on more important stuff (getting games working etc.) But presumably they do have some full time web developers who could probably implement this stuff in less than a day (let's face it, before I started this I barely knew any javascript, so if I can manage it at all it can't actually be too difficult...)

Feature request - is it possible to add the GOG Downloader link that adds all extras to the Downloader? I know I'm being lazy, but it's more often than not that I want to download them all, and I'd rather not have to click on each one to do so.

As for the shelf, I'm old-school, old, and stubborn, so I guess I'm in the minority preferring the all-around legacy shelf, and I'd also prefer the black edition of it.
It's up to you, but you could talk to Barefoot_Monkey to see how the box-art for games released after the NAS went live are handled in relation to the legacy shelf.

That shouldn't be too difficult, I'll have a look into it.

Yeah, I will do. I might just implement a number of different options if it's not too difficult.
There was a black edition? :/
If the files are available and can be linked to the games without too much difficulty then there's no reason not to implement it.

Huh... don't remember that, then again I never spent much time in my library anyway..

As long as the files are still there I don't see why not... :)

I still have a webpage with a image map of a screenshot of my shelf with the black background.
So purrrty.

I always choose whatever dark option there is, got to protect that blue eye from unnecessary strain! ;-)

New update is here. Just some of the feature requests that were easy enough to implement. I've checked in Firefox and I don't think I've broken anything, but you never know.. :)

JMich: Two suggestions, if possible
1) Give us the option of having both web downloads and gogdownloads. For quick checks, I prefer using the web downloads, and having to reload the page if I forgot to switch is a bit annoying (though nothing I can't live with).
2) Add a link to this forum thread in the fundamentals menu, to make it easier to find it and post when required.
Done and done.

HypersomniacLive: - I assume that if one changes the default settings for reviews on the game page they don't stick. Will you add options in the script menu?
Done

mrkgnao: Feature request (nice to have):
If one turns off "automatically sort and display reviews on page load", then no reviews are displayed at all.
Can you change this behaviour so that GOG's default review display (some (currently 5) number of reviews in some (unknown) order) is shown instead.
It would be useful when talking to people who don't use AF, to be able to see what the hoi polloi see.
Also useful in order to notice changes in GOG's default display.
Done!
