Seven years ago tonight, my friend died.
As a result, I find it increasingly difficult to have or wish a "happy new year" upon anyone - particularly as they are the last know words said to and spoken by him.
Instead, I would like you to raise a toast to absent friends - living or dead - here and there. Whomsoever, however and wherever they may be.
Instead of "happy new year" I wish that you all make enough of a mark (be it large or be it small) upon someones life, that in your absence, and at such times, you too are toasted as an absent friend. I hope that others make enough of an impact upon yours to be remembered, missed or reached out to. I hope you follow the example set by The Sigil (and of course many others, here and out in the world) in December and reach out to absent friends you do not yet know, and may never meet. I hope that if you find yourself in circumstances beyond your means or control, that absent friends (known, or unknown) will reach out to you, and aid you in that time.
Here's to you, here's to them, here's to us and the great unknown!
To absent friends!
Edit: I DO just mean make a toast OF "to absent friends" FFS!
