Linko64: it's only a problem as long as goes against your personal preference!
That's why exclusivity is wrong. Why should I be dictated to where I can get the game from? It should be down to me where I buy the game from and my personal preference.

So long as I'm willing to buy the game why should should it matter, more so for an older game. If I choose to buy A Vampyre Story from Steam, or GOG, retail or even ZOOM? Current owners get profits. (aside from retail.)

If a company makes a game such as Microsoft and Gears of War or Unchanted and Sony then fair enough I still disagree but they make systems so I understand it.

I got it from GOG despite owning the CD as I like Crimson Cow, and if they release more on GOG I'll get them, but I'm not going to buy from ZOOM for them.

At no point did i celebrate exclusivity, think you missed that bit there mate!

I might of (slightly drunk) but it just sounded like that your defending ZOOM snapping up A Vampyre Story.

I figured you where as I assumed you work them for them now, which is a shame but lets not open that can of worms.
avatar
RoboPond: I disagree with exclusivity even from GOG. But A Vampyre Story is an older game that was on GOG, and was only on retail or Steam till then and ZOOM then took exclusivity, not cool.

Linko64: No one 'took it' it was delisted everyone and an agreement was made, the same way GOG has some exclusivity agreements. I know it sucks when you can't use the store of choice, but it's a little funny it's only a problem as long as goes against your personal preference!
When a game is delisted new agreements can be made, indeed, but the unfair part is that the agreement is an exclusivity one. Unfair because the game was delisted from every store.

"A priori" it do not see any problem with a game being exclusive "per se".
But It is not the same as negotiate an exclusivity agreement for a new game not previously available.

Therefore, with a dirty mind, I can only think in two options: the game was delisted specifically for the exclusivity with ZOOM,
Or it is just a matter of business filibusterism (be quick or be dead). In a riptide, I take advantage of the situation.

Any of the two options are, in my humble opinion, bad. But now I am thinking with a naive mind.

Again, where do i celebrate or defend exclusivity? I've been pretty open about my stance on exclusives for about 15 years now lol, but we're going off topic here, assumptions included ;)

Can 1000% confirm it was not delisted with the view to go on Zoom, it was delisted from there too. Some people make effort to enquire, some don't. Caring about video games is more than just a cheeky tweet or expecting them to email you etc

my name is catte: Yeah, definitely. Exclusivity is unhealthy.

Linko64: ...don't mean to rock the boat but errr wtf do you think GOG are doing? lol
I can't think of many games that are exclusive to GOG, but I disagree with exclusivity contracts in general. If we're talking about a game that other stores haven't bothered to release it's one thing, but when I say exclusivity I mean contractual exclusivity. I don't like it when GOG does it any more than anywhere else. Not quite the gotcha you were hoping for I guess. :P

So https://twitter.com/ZOOMPlatform/status/1532288826219061248 was just a off the cheek tweet and not exclusive then?

'Gotcha'? at no point did i want ya!

But really, how can you not think of a single GOG exclusive be it core classic game! That's their main selling point!

I'm simply unaware of what is and isn't exclusive. I would argue being DRM-free is their main selling point. I'm pretty sure there have been multiple cases where games sold on Steam have included fixes done by GOG, so they definitely don't automatically have exclusivity just because they've fixed up an old game.

I'm not even sure what you mean with this question, the tweet is dated today?

With all due respect 'pretty sure' doesn't mean a whole lot without at least one example of it. Steam/Epic doesn't intergrade fan patches like some GOG titles do (Vampire Bloodlines for example)

Yes It says "We're happy to reveal A Vampyre Story is now an exclusive to Zoom-Platform!"

If its a cheeky tweet as ZOOM is the first to get it back then fine, if they are the only ones that get them game then that's the issue I have.

So you expect companies to not talk about what games are on their site? I'm a little confused where this is going now other than off-topic and talking about marketing patterns

No but when games are delisted everywhere else and a site says its exclusive joke or not had it said A Vampyre Story is now back on our site to buy then fine, but saying its an exclusive makes people thing ZOOM is the only digital platform you can get it from in the future as its only to them.

We've already talked about this lol, hop back a few posts and you'll see. We're going around in circles mate. If you that interested in my thoughts on the topic to a deep level feel free to hit me up on discord or twitch. I only have a few hours in the day after work to myself and repeating convos isn't getting either of us anywhere closer to the promised land :P

I'm absolutely 100% certain it happened with multiple games, I just can't remember all the instances. Pretty sure when the original Tomb Raider games showed up on Steam they were the "GOG versions". Steam/Epic don't integrate anything with anything, they're just a store. It was SquareEnix who published the Tomb Raider games on Steam and specifically uploaded the GOG packages, so the games definitely weren't exclusive to GOG.
