Everyone who tackles the problem comes to the conclusion that either minimum wage must be increased (which doesn't solve the problem, as prices increase with it) or to start a business, which can get ugly, too. Software related startups are the only ones remotely viable, because it costs nothing to get started. That said, how long until you're replaced when people find that there's cheaper labor outside of the US?
And the "free uni" idea doesn't solve the problem, either, since you're just redirecting the cost to somenone else (via taxes), who usually ends up being the people who are struggling. Then, they want experience with that degree.
