SirPrimalform: The US doesn't have companies that use international call centres? I'm not saying it was a call worth your time, but isn't scam jumping to conclusions?

Interesting! Most international call centres serving English speaking countries seem to be in India, to the extent where there are courses and qualifications specifically for working in call centres.

The webhosting/ consulting company I work for, we use an Indian service for our first and second level support. We couldn't find a decent enough US company at the time to use.

What's sad is their average education level is just under a Masters, 6 of the 22 folks assigned to our account (both full time and peak) have doctorates and they're answering emails about setting up email inboxes and ssl certificates.

That is pretty depressing. I understand it's a very in demand job in India, so I guess that means the highly qualified stand the best chance even if their expertise is being grossly underused.

The thing is I know all about computers so it really annoys me when `microsoft` phones to tell me I have a `virus`. To be honest I`ve considered going a long with it and sending a worm to shut down his system. I don`t normally do that, but I know a couple of guys who already have. And let me tell you those call centre guys overseas have the most imaginative way of swearing!

An IQ of 60 is enough to make 100 if there are 4 people with 110. To be fair, I get your point, But there's no reason to pessimistic when there are a number of very, very low IQ people for one reason or another (injury, birth defect, etc). I've known alot of people with 70 or blow IQ in my rural county alone. This is not rare.

I grew up having to learn 10 key so I can type a number fairly quickly.

I had to cover a local business this morning as the manager had to deal with a plumber. Got six calls I found on that website.

Every Laurel I've known over the years, including my old high school debate partner as well as my EMT partner were female.
I'd imagine with such a flowery name. Kind of like you don't expect to meet a man with the name 愛子 or 子猫 or Cynthia, etc.

I got these a few times, too, and i was using Fedora on all machines in the house, except the router using DD-WRT.

kohlrak: See, my father's name is on both phone lines, and he's now in his 60s.

But, yeah, seems like it. The number looked like a local telephone number, but clearly the voice on the other end was not from around here. I live in a rural county, the only way we hear that type of accent is when we see a doctor.

And people were telling me as a child that it's OK to be a self-taught coder, because there's a shortage of qualified individuals.

It is ok to be a self-taught coder. I mean, if you are content with a salary of $100,000 to $250,000. If that's not to your liking, you can get a Ph.D. in computer science, become a professor in the academia and make $75,000.
