Big changes are here.

My Account is the heart of your GOG.com experience. It's the one place that's 100% yours, and the place you always go to download your games and manage the entire library.
Starting today, your My Account is completely new - remade and redesigned from scratch to better support our growing library of games and many of your biggest requests. Aside from every usability fix we could think of, we've also introduced brand new tools to keep your library organised, and new social features to stay in touch with your friends.

The list of new features is long, but you can see the whole thing on our forums. The most important highlights include:

--Support for friends lists and chat.
--Shared wishlists.
--Advanced filtering and custom tags for your library.
--A new, detailed order history.
--Accessible game changelogs.

We're sure that these new changes will greatly improve your overall user experience on GOG.com, and we can't wait to hear what you think on the wishlist and right here in the comments!

eiii: Sorry, for once I've been too fast.
No need to apologise, we'll just have to put all the various entries in a list.

Coelocanth: I've not figured a way to put spaces between paragraphs. In the old PM system, you hit Enter and it left a line space. Now if you do that it sends the chat message. Drives me crazy. I'd prefer they have both PMs and Chat, if they insist on a damned Chat feature.
Shift+Enter for every empty line you want.

Yes, the controls should definitely be tweaked, but I still think having both features is redundant. It ultimately works the same, just... worse, so if GOG upgrades it properly (and renames it to something more suitable), it should be fine.

Nice they tell us...oh, wait >_>

If this works, thanks. But I rarely talk to people, let alone on chat XD

YnK: Alright, so I've had my first experience with the Chat feature today... and honestly, I didn't notice much of a difference. I think its name is more scary than the actual feature itself - just "Messages" or something of the sort would've been fine.

(The usage was the same as for PMs, that is - code gifting.)

The text window should probably be bigger, though.
No offence - perhaps code gifting was the only usage for you, but some of us used it for more than that, and the current Chat thing doesn't lend itself to that.

Alright, let's see - the chat is technically still private (as GOG said), so if it's improved in terms of the text input, won't it still function virtually the same? I think the name's unfitting, though.

I also think you may be able to use it for both communication types. Increase the message window, make the controls configurable and re-add the option for email notification, then the current system should be usable for PMs too.

Edit: At least if there are no other deficiencies I'm not aware of yet as I only have used the new system once so far.

I disagree.

I welcome the chat function, but PMs worked more like emails. I've had a bunch of lengthy, meaningfuls conversations through them. I can't see the chat system covering this.

For me, it's not just the text box that has issues. But as I said earlier, I'm still putting together my feedback on it; when I'm ready I'll post it.

eiii: I guess for compatibility with Galaxy as an online communication makes more sense there (e.g. for arranging multiplayer matches). And GOG did not want to maintain two separate systems.

Klumpen0815: Is this a theory or did someone from the team say that?
No, just my guess.

avatar
Klumpen0815: It can't be too complicated getting the client to access the same mailbox as was used for the old messages, or can it?
I assume the old system has been too slow to use it for online communication (as some people here have reported that some messages only have been delivered after hours).

Can we try? :) (I'm sort of curious about how it'll work out.)

You can certainly try to PM me a detailed and thought out essay why you like the new system better.

;-) See what I mean?

+1

Wish I could plus it more...

Done. And please note that I have absolutely no intention to prove you wrong. BTW, I never exactly stated I like the chat "better", just that it can perform the same function just fine (but certainly needs a few improvements). :) Anyway, I wasn't going to start an argument on the forums to begin with, so let's see how the chat will work for the discussion.

EDIT: Will reply to your reply when I'm online again.

I wish to have my Good Old Wood back!
I wanted to leave a request at the site-wishlist, but at least one exists already. And it has way too little votes yet.

Ah, thank you, good sir!

I figured it was something like that but didn't want to subject someone to the experimentation of me trying out all the permutations of the Shift, CTRL, ALT + other keys.
