You can add custom tags to sort through your library, I don't know if that helps but it should make it easier than having to click and drag a bunch of boxes on the shelf. I've tried the old manual sort even back in the days before I became GOG staff and I couldn't make use of it. I do hope that with the new tags this will make sorting options easier for everyone but I understand that a lot of people liked their manual sorting as well.
My biggest issue are still the new game graphics which replaced the gameboxes. I can still accept the loss of having everything on one page and manual sorting - biting my nails - but the gamefront now just looks as lifeless and dull like the one Steam has.

Boxes = Your thing
Storegraphic = Feels like i rented it like a movie in one of those digital stores

I'm ok with losing manual sorting, but only if GOG fixes the way games in a particular series are sorted. Having my library list Thief 2, then 3, then 1 is quite annoying. As is the Prince of Persia series being listed backwards chronologically.

These and several other series need fixing, or the return of manual sorting. Or both.

silvrdark: Some positive things are being attempted here, which is nice, but all of this feels unfinished. If you guys are trying to do some kind of agile rollout where new features are delivered iteratively, the communication on this should be reconsidered.

The response would be more tempered if there was a clearer list of the "coming soon" items that seem like no-brainers (for example, being able to add friends in some manner other than clicking on a forum post).

Good luck, but truly, please think about how these rollouts are managed and messaged out to your user base.
While I agree with you that a lot of work remains to be done to have a fully updated interface and that they should improve the communication on this matter, do you really think it'll change the reaction of the people complaining.

There are mostly 2 parts to the forums. Firstly, the more enjoyable, the posts created by user to share information, help each other, offer gifts. Secondly, the posts created by the GOG staff where the majority of the posts these days are aggressive complaints:
- Lucasarts games are there -> too expensive, not the games I wanted, why Star Wars again;
- Galaxy -> DRM is here and GOG is the new Steam (I can't wait for the GOGBox then :) );
- New UI -> 1 hour after it's live, it's already decided that it's the worst UI in the world (Steam referenced again, it is the godwin point of GOG's forums).

Obviously they can improve but give them a break. These people are hard-working making what they believe are the best choices under financial / technical constraints mostly unknown to us the users. I do not like some of those and I let the GOG's team know but I really think that a different picture for the game cards or the removal of the manual sorting requires this level of aggressive behaviour.

One last thing, when I read posts saying "I've spent xxx $ here and with these changes they ripped me off"... No they don't, download these games, play them, they are still yours and if, one day, you feel like re-using GOG's services give a try and see if it then suits your need.

Edit: Would not like to sound more grumpy than I really am here so I want to point out the fact that GOG's community is still one of the best I've seen on the web and I'd rather spent time here than in most of the other forums.

I guess you have to look what they actually wanted to achieve and then you could think about if this is still possible with the given means now.

From what I gathered reading here, what people did was:

1. Combine all titles of a series together in the right order (sort by name or release date doesn't achieve this)
2. Only put their favorite games on top and the rest somewhere down (so you best have to leave something

Now this sounds reasonable to me. I would like to have something like this too.

However there is no good way now to achieve this.

One way would be to allow custom collections with manual sorting order (where you drag and drop maybe 10-50 games each) and then you enhance the hide/unhide functionality to copy games from one collection to another.

Example:

Collection: All my games (is just all games)
Collection: All my best RPGS (is all the best rpgs that you choose in manual sorting order (if you like))
Collection: All my favorite RTS (...)

So:
- scrap the hide/unhide (it is not really that useful)
- open up custom collections with optional manual sort order

Difference between collections and tags are that tagging is about some kind of similarity while collections are about some kind of order. Tags cannot order, collections may additional allow to filter for tags.

In the other thread it says:

COMING SOON: 5 new shelf skins. We are starting with only 1 skin (the classic wood), but soon after release we will add a bunch of new styles. It's purely a visual thing, so we didn't want to focus on that before release. Since many of you requested new styles, we will be introducing them pretty soon.
Sounds to me like only background changes. But I might be wrong.

As an afterthought - just as a quick fix.

- Either fix the sorting by name or introduce new sort order (first by name, then by series), that keeps series together and in the right publication order (just give them manual numbers in the series, then sort two times, first by name, then by this number in the series.

I thought you already try to do it like this but of course this is far from perfect now.

For example: Broken Sword Director's Cut is last, not first in series; Lords of the Realm series order is 1,3,CD version, II; Caesar 3, Pharaoh + Cleopatra, Zeus + Poseidon could be regarded as one series; all the Generals could be together; Thief Gold is behind Thief 2; Witcher is behind Witcher 2

This can be improved, I guess.
My biggest issue with this is the lack of attention to the GOG Downloader. I'm a little puzzled as to why game installers must now be directly downloaded through the browser by default, as opposed to just making it toggle-able like before.

You can use the Galaxy client as new downloader. There they hide the download functionality a bit for whatever reason (it's actually under Download Extras) but works as good as the old downloader (is probably quite a bit of the same codebase). So you do not have to use the browser exclusively, which is especially good when pausing and resuming of downloads and a unified folder naming.

JudasIscariot: ...
I have a wishlisted game that is not on sale anymore!

With the new Account system I have a game called "Dark Matter" on my wishlist, which I can't remove, probably because it has been removed from gog sale catalogue approximately 1.5 years ago.
ticket number OMIV5GJS

clicking on x does not remove it, just cycles between "x" and "heart".

No, it doesn't work as good.

No pause functionality (yet) and blindly downloading files you already have are the first two deficiencies that come to mind.
There are some things with the tag search.

1. You cannot search for games without any tags. An "Untagged" search option would be nice.

2. If you mark several tags, the logical composition is OR. Why not AND? I guess many would want it as in searchign for FAVORITE AND TO BE PLAYED.

3. You have no NOT. This would be of course even better: FAVORITE AND NOT ...

I know this is difficult with a graphical interface, especially arbitrary logical connections, although they would be cool.

The easiest would be for the moment to add an "Untagged" as option and change the OR to an AND.

I also wondered about the downloading. I was confused when it started downloading something I had copied there manually from my old downloader. It then downloaded exactly the same file (or at least a file with the same name and size which very probably is identical). I found that strange. Has Galaxy an inbuilt database which keeps track of downloaded files? This is dangerous. It's much better to only rely on what is actually there on the disc. But at least then it did not download again a third time when I tried to download again.

Not sure though about all this. Will have to make more systematic tests to find out what Galaxy really does.

I guess this is the current wanted behavior. Press F5 for a relead (when the heart appears) and the game may be gone from the wishlist.

This is most probably just a deficiency of the new web site design. If you click "X" the game should completely vanish, not only get slightly grayer. But GOG, in its wisdom wants to make it easier for you to put the game back on the wishlist.

What about a delayed removal, like after 1-2 seconds after graying out. As it is, this "feature" seems to rather confuse people.

LoveShines: I like the new features, I won't complain about those but the library doesn't feel like a library anymore. It just feels like I'm looking at the store or an extension of the store. I prefer the classic look and also the fact that out of all the hundreds of games I own I could just scroll down and find it instead of taking the extra time to sift through pages or do a search. In adding some of the new features I feel like some of the simplicity of the old have been lost, ironically, since this is all supposed to make things easier and it doesn't feel that way in that aspect. It would be nice to see an option to change back to the old library but also keep the newer features.

Making the shelf design to look exactly with the store except from a "color skin" aint really a way to "personnalize"

it feels the "hey, it is YOUR account, and YOU are just like ANYONE else, you know" style

it is true the old manual system had issues... but it just needed some correction and improvement (minor ones, just like being able to adapt the list to the screen witdh for exemple, maybe make some area or sub drawers to act like folder or categories...), especially with collections larger than 400 games (raw, not counting the unbundled stuff)

something good but with some issues cannot be "improved" by just kicking it in the nuts out of the house in favor for something completely different

and, NO, the "unbundling" stupidity WASNT a way to improve it the way it needed at all..

btw it is not because it was difficult to use "for you" that it is a rule of thumb for most people

Well, if they value their customers and their communauty, this is not the most clever way to do this.
either make a website section where ideas and design features can be discussed BEFORE going live

or

make a separate "test" website with a dummy account to act as a live demo and showoff, then link back to communauty with a forum thread and a poll like "how do you like it so far" or "do we go live with this ? your call"

but making the change without warning, without announcement, without rollback, forcedly, without discussion... it is not really clever
nor is the fact to make it go live while it mimics some supposedly "BETA OPTIONAL" thing at same time. That in fact is just taking people for complete morons hoping they wont notice it.

in my job, one never makes a beta stuff spreads live and everywhere while still in beta, nor will an update or a drastic change occurs before consulting interested parties first. would i handle my job the way gog handle this, i would just be shouted at or even dismissed.

download/install size through galaxy sometimes is bigger (saying it about an up to date game with no update at all), like for example Dyad (1.1 gb soever through gog installer, 1.5 gb through galaxy)
the plain installer thing has a version number (or had, they renamed many things) and, until the rollback promised feature is lived, it is the only way to keep track of various versions
plus, speaking on my prsonnal case, the galaxy client has some downloa dissue on some computers (without clear reasons), while on same machine the gog downloader or the internet browser would go at full speed.

plus sometimes people have a need to download a game from a machine that is not the one they would install the game to (as would do galaxy)
