Big changes are here.

My Account is the heart of your GOG.com experience. It's the one place that's 100% yours, and the place you always go to download your games and manage the entire library.
Starting today, your My Account is completely new - remade and redesigned from scratch to better support our growing library of games and many of your biggest requests. Aside from every usability fix we could think of, we've also introduced brand new tools to keep your library organised, and new social features to stay in touch with your friends.

The list of new features is long, but you can see the whole thing on our forums. The most important highlights include:

--Support for friends lists and chat.
--Shared wishlists.
--Advanced filtering and custom tags for your library.
--A new, detailed order history.
--Accessible game changelogs.

We're sure that these new changes will greatly improve your overall user experience on GOG.com, and we can't wait to hear what you think on the wishlist and right here in the comments!

Has something happened at GOG? They seem to be going all-out with 'let's take away things and tell everyone that they have more options now while they really have fewer' PR-talk.

Have they hired someone like this recently or something? They seem to be changing direction while pretend-placating us that 'everything is optional' when it really isn't..

Big changes indeed.
But if nothing else, this shows that not all changes that take place are good.

What I always loved about GOG was the virtual game shelf with boxes.
Now, it's just like any other game store.

And the manual sorting used to be here for years. We used it for years.
How are we going to find any logic in an account dictated by "the system upgrade"? Especially when we have previously manually sorted hundreds of games to our own prefered order?

And to make things worse for me personally, I always did the manual sorting AFTER I had downloaded the game and extras. Which was all very clear... the sorted games were first, and whatever new games appeared, they were in the very end of the collection.

This got all messed up by the unbundling fiasco, but sadly that was only a prologue for things to come.
Now that all games are messed up, do I really have to check and compare hundreds of games with my local backup to see which I have downloaded and which not?
Seriously, dudes???

Or am I meant to use this goddamn galaxy thing and waste my bandwidth (and yours) and redownload everything, which is like a terabyte or something???

I'm seriously considering moving to some other game stores. They are not perfect, but as far as I can recall, no other store has completely messed up my method of collecting.

jester59388: WTF?! I just spent forever manually resorting all of my games after the great unbundling debacle and now I have to do it all over again -- AND the only way to do it now is a complicated system of assigning tags instead of simple drop and drag? Sorry, but this truly sucks.

I could care less about the "Steam-like" social media aspects offered in this change -- if I wanted them, I'd be using Steam. This change just gave me a ton of crap I don't want, and took away the things I enjoyed most. What's next? Steam-like restrictions on my ability to download and back up the game files?
Hear, hear!!!

I second every word you said, bro.

I also have to say I hate it. Period. I agree with other comments, if we wanted anything like Steam, we'd be USING Steam. I have 409 games and had everything nice and organized manually. I could save the page on my hdd and at a glance see my list of games. Now there are 5 pages? That sux! What sux even more is no link on the original downloader for access to download dlc added to the game purchase. I know you guys want to seem up to date and competitive but your own style is better than a clone of the people your customers don't have respect for.
The only thing I have on my property that has steam on it is a pile of dog doo on a cold day.
At least give us back our old book shelf as an option.

Tallima: This is a weird place to post this. But I'll respond.

They usually lock threads if the OP asks them to be locked or if the thread goes nowhere fast. There may have been something lost in translation, but it sounded like you were asking how to spend money for the next 3 days -- which is something nobody can help you with.

If you're looking at budgeting as a whole, I am of the Dave Ramsey camp -- get out of debt, spend as little as you can until you're out of debt, and then keep spending as little as you can. Materialism takes a lot of money and time and effort, so I try to avoid it (though I fall into common pitfalls myself).

I would recommend looking at what money is coming in, what money must go out, trim what must go out, put some money aside for savings, have a set amount of fun money that you don't go over, and then put whatever is left into paying off debt or investing.

Cyraxpt: Yeah, i was going to make a thread about it but i thought it was related to this new update and i didn't want to make a thread for something pointless like that, i was just curious because it was the first time that i saw that and i thought they were also changing the forums (</3).
Oh, and that isn't my thread, lol. ;)
Ha! I didn't even notice it wasn't your thread. I didn't recognize you with your new Error 500 avatar. Nice, BTW. :)

As someone pointed out earlier, streaming option for movies has also been canceled.Hmmm.

I was actually hoping earlier we'd get manual sorting for the Movies page. :(

I'm not happy with this change. This is what I need:

1) Manual Sorting as before (and extend it to Movies please).

2) A setting to have all games on one page.

3) Full box art once again, not half text/half squashed art

4) Download Manager links returned under the games, not behind further links. It worked perfectly before with the on/off button setting the behaviour of the links.

I'll assume the loss of movie streaming is a bug at this point. I wouldn't mind the Galaxy button being removed from each game page either.

Sorry to be negative but I have to be honest.

Goran84: Thanks GOG! It's really nice but would you please add the option for game boxes ?!
avatar
gamesfreak64: i assume you mean the boxes as they look on retail games ? with a 'dimension' or a flat image?

see attachment

dont forget the more graphic used the heavier the load will be compared to a minimum flat design where shapes are used.
I thought the CD / DVD gaming plastic box art

I am OK with the changes so far. I do not miss the old "boxes" on the shelf since after the unbundling, many of the games had hideous covers. Although I never used manual sorting, it sucks, that it was removed - many folks were using that.
So, I do not hate the new Design in general... But it would be awesome to give the option to change the library into the old outfit. I sorted my games (over 130) by hand so they looked good in the shelf. And now... I only can sort them by purchase date and title. Please bring the old library (as an optional feature) back.
There is already a vote for the old library:

aha, the ones that give an idea of 'depth' on a 2d screen
i know what you mean

we seem to have none, besides of some flat image stuff on the flat 'shelves'

all that extra white on the shelves , my eyes need to get used to it.
Anyways logged in client now, to compare things, the left part is black and nicer and easier on the eyes

Asking here as well - is there a reason for the order of the pending friends invites to change every time one visits that part of their account, other than to show us how they can, completely randomly, move around? It's already enough that we get zero info about the people that have sent invites (not even registration info is provided), why make it hard to find a friend among random people?

Is it possible to have them display in chronological or alphabetical order?

It's not "100% mine" if I can no longer sort manually.
Remember guys, Galaxy is optional...

I like the changes btw, but I'm not anti-galaxy/anti-client/anti-change either.

Yes, it's optional, meaning all these Galaxy-inspired website-changes that take away options don't really exist. We're all just imagining these 'fully optional' changes that aren't optional and that take away functionality from the website - whether we use Galaxy or not.

Yes, optional.. say that word enough times and it starts to sound weird..
