Big changes are here.

My Account is the heart of your GOG.com experience. It's the one place that's 100% yours, and the place you always go to download your games and manage the entire library.
Starting today, your My Account is completely new - remade and redesigned from scratch to better support our growing library of games and many of your biggest requests. Aside from every usability fix we could think of, we've also introduced brand new tools to keep your library organised, and new social features to stay in touch with your friends.

The list of new features is long, but you can see the whole thing on our forums. The most important highlights include:

--Support for friends lists and chat.
--Shared wishlists.
--Advanced filtering and custom tags for your library.
--A new, detailed order history.
--Accessible game changelogs.

We're sure that these new changes will greatly improve your overall user experience on GOG.com, and we can't wait to hear what you think on the wishlist and right here in the comments!

I would be happy if I'd even still have any kind of library at all!

Psyringe: I like (or at least don't mind) the changes to the account system, but it seems that the §"Messages" tab is gone from my menu and that my messages have been wiped (going to the link manually displays a message "you have no conversations".

Is this an oversight, will it be fixed?

yyahoo: Yeah, it appears they changed it post release...

They only had to change it because the more restrictive setting was a mistake. Share with friends was announced as being the default three days ago. See the sticky top post of the thread you linked.
:o This is great (for the most part), I'd say it's now better than the account stuff on Steam. There are some oddities though:

No way to add tags to games in bulk, I cannot accept friend requests, the context menu that pops up when you click the "v" button under a game can get pretty finicky, Witcher 2 in Galaxy is "not yet available", no way to view all of your games (hidden and unhidden together).

So same shelves as Galaxy. Logic. Still haven't corrected the bug for game title order though. You know, witcher II being displayed before Witcher 1, invisible war before deus ex 1 etc... It's only been MONTHS since I reported it multiple times... Wait for the new version you said... Hum... I'll stop there ok. And huh... I'm not sur Galaxy has its place on the game shelves, it should be next to gog downloader.

I hate it. Period. I agree with other comments, if we wanted anything like Steam, we'd be USING Steam. I only have 70 games, but yes, I too had everything nice and organized manually, and now it's a PITA. Also, I likely won't be using many of these "new features" because I'm more of a solo gameplayer, not into co-op or PvP ganes as much, and I do most of my gaming offline where I won't be interrupted by windows updates, java updates, etc.

Now, if the site made everything OPTIONAL, or designed all these changes for those who play multiplayer and online games, leaving everything just as it was for those of us solo players, THAT would be much more agreeable. As it stands, however, 80-90% of my games are classics, and solo play, and all these changes are turning GOG into the same sort of sites I AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! I'm not antisocial, I just prefer my "social" gaming to be face to face over a table, or for digital, simple fighting games or SSX Tricky over a PS2 console, 2-player, in my livingroom!

Basically, many of these changes are off-putting, and I'll likely spend LESS time here, even to browse new merchandise...considering the only reason I do come here is to BUY, and to DOWNLOAD.
Many good things, but two rather baffling terrible things:

1. Why can I not manually sort the games? This is particularly maddening because some series are automatically out of order and I hate it.

2. Why is the usability of the GOG Downloader now shuffled off into some weird alternate page? Why not have a toggle like before? Very wonky. It looked so bad I thought the page might be broken.

They said in the other thread that while manual ordering probably won't come back anytime soon, they will alter/improve the ordering so that games in the series always appear in the correct order.
i also just discovered that you can't stream movies anymore. Is this new?

No disagreement. Just mentioned it as way of explaining why gamesfreak seemed to think it was one way when it was not.

I am an offline and solo player too and don't care about achievements or similar "social" things either; but honestly apart from the removal of the manual sorting and boxart/shelf view which, I understand, can be annoying for some, all the rest is optional and doesn't really change anything compared as before.

Ok, this is ridiculous. Not only new design looks godawful(seriously? this crappy thumbnails instead of neat-looking boxes on a wooden shelf?), it also lacks manual sorting. What a bunch of bull... Way to go, gog team, way to f#cking go! Unless classic shelf and manual sorting would be brought back, at the very least as an option, I can't see myself using gog any more. Downloading all my stuff to an offline storage and leaving this place for good.

Treasure: Now with these changes it's not 100% "mine" anymore-it's mine only in the sense I paid for most of my games, but otherwise my account just doesn't feel "mine" anymore; it feels like yet another cold storefront...

I was checking my forum replies and:

I've been here for a while and this is the first time that i see a locked thread, usually it just gets deleted. Is this new? (And kind of weird to close that thread, i don't see anything wrong with it that deserved to be closed)

Tekkaman-James: So...you say that all of my PMs are preserved in the new Chat section. However, when I go there, all it tells me is that I have no friends. Will it only show old PMs if I add the corresponding person to my Friends List? Does that mean the rest are essentially gone? Why even store them at that point? Also, maybe I need to see my PMs to determine who should be on my Friends List. Some users have changed their Usernames and/or Avatars which can make remembering past experiences with them difficult at a glance. Being able to refer to old PMs always helped out with that. Is there some way to access these invisible PMs that I am missing?
Same problem here, PMs are gone, there's nothing under Chat. Do you seriously expect me to "friend" people just to get this back? Some of them don't even use GOG anymore, how do you figure that will work?

Next up, tags on overlays - they're mushed together, it looks like this: COMPLETEDFAVORITE -- come on, commas are cheap.

Finally, ratings. One still can't rate from the library, for each game I must go to its store page. I hoped when I saw the ratings displayed that you finally introduced this, but nope.

At least you fixed sorting by purchase date. It's an emotional moment. I feel like weeping. Or tearing my shirt and shouting at the sky. Or some other grandstanding biblical gesture.
