paladin181: GOG: Don't post about Cyberpunk on the general forum

Also GOG: Vomits threads all over the General forum about Cyberpunk.

Confused? I dont blame you.
teddy, the fact that the forum users are shitposters and don't follow the suggestions and rules is hardly gogs fault

the userbase is not really smart, but they keep telling themselves they are "better" than steam... in what way? i dunno
avatar
HunchBluntley: They're not -- only once the first comment is posted is the forum comment thread (which is all the forum version of a newspost is intended to be) actually created, hence all the "forum pop!" posts in those threads.
avatar
tfishell: Good point. Still I don't really have a problem with what paladin is talking about.
Nor do I. That's why I tried to draw the distinction between "user- [or staff-]created forum post" and "auto-generated forum post to serve as comment thread for actual promotional news post". After all, I don't recall GOG staff personally creating any forum topics to promote this game. :P

With the all the other things, great and small, that are wrong with GOG as a store, as a website, as a service, this bit of faux-"hypocrisy" doesn't even rate.
avatar
Time4Tea: Imo one of the biggest problems with GOG atm is that they seem to have stopped listening to and communicating with their user base.
What do you mean "stopped"? I don't remember them ever starting.

Please use the "Tiny and Big" subforum.

paladin181: It's just a small slice of the problems. Inconsistency combined with hypocrisy. Beautiful. I don't hate them. But I don't like the whole double standard mentality.
Several staff have been doing it near forever with various issues/topics/rules....so from my POV it's nothing new.

An example(just an example I noted recently): Various gaming related threads that are ontopic/within rules/civil(or mostly civil) over the last month or so have gotten locked seemingly based on staff preference or bias alone, while others on similar topics have usually not gotten locked if the stances/beliefs expressed swung in the other direction.

pippin15: teddy, the fact that the forum users are sh*tposters and don't follow the suggestions and rules is hardly gogs fault
Actually, they're (mostly) not sh*tposters......that would be the ones posting actual trollish threads....in this case it's moreso that people seemingly don't bother checking to see where their posts will land first before posting.
(i.e. people can't be bothered to check, likely in part due to some laziness)
Yes, the end results are the same(floods of new threads that should be in the subforum being here), but they're (for the most part) sh*tposters.

I do, however, somewhat agree that the userbase here (in general) seems to sometimes think they're better than steam and social media, even when that has been shown to not be the case on several occasions

(To anyone reading this who might be a bit offended by the above: many on GOG forums are good eggs.....but people here can be good and bad just like on steam...it's just that on steam there are more users and the modding can be a bit lax in some forums there, making it look worse by comparison on steam forums)

I dunno, there seem to be a few cultural toxins that are tolerated here that would have you mashed into a paste on Steam.

As I said, in some forums there..... steam forum modding varies from forum to forum, as each (iirc) is run by different people.
All this Cyberpunk all over the gamingverse makes me want to play the last 2 Deus-Ex games before paying CP2077 lol

Can you do this in them though?

That two I already finished it. I actually finished the 2nd before trying the 1st years ago so I rather fond of Invisible War. Playing them again last year (after shamelessly beg it) and the 1st especially is still great.

ADD: heh i remember that XD

True, the first has some interesting aspects.....but the second has some as well. Too bad they didn't take the best bits of both and make a third (sequel, I mean) game, eh? :)
Ah maybe I should stop nostalgia spamming Deus Ex here. Sorry Paladin, cheers clarry and GR.
A NOW I'LL DENOUNCE WHY EVERYTHING IS WRONG IN GOG: mumble, mumble, something about the forum, mumble, mumble, something about notifications, mumble, mumble, Galaxy is bad
