Hope they don't go Square Enix on us saying that "we only sold X copies on GoG so it's a falure!".

ReynardFox: I hate when a developer does this, it feels like a middle finger to those who did support them if they don't get whatever magical profit number they want or expect. As long as you get more money out than you put in, shouldn't you be happy more people are enjoying your games?

I did my part, but seeing the game not even break the top 100 makes me worry.

nightcraw1er.488: My thoughts exactly. They are a business, they should decide if it is commercially viable, its not our responsibility to support them. This kind of guilt advertising - "you didn't support us so we cant xyz" - crap needs to stop. As such I am not going to buy this game now, fecking ejits.
Guys, they're just testing waters and are looking for feedback. If you don't want to buy their games a second time (which is a completely sane choice) fire them an email and let them know that while you bought their games on steam by now, you'd like to buy their next releases on GOG.

Alright, maybe I took the original post a bt off from what was intended.

This right here. I bought it, but this seems like a very reasonable course of action for those who don't want to.
Would the Pirate themed game not been more apt for testing the water?

They're doing their part to earn profit. They're companies. What do you expect, doing DRM free charities for you guys?

World doesn't work that way.

Even Witcher 3 is on Steam for that reason.

Some people are really ignorant beyond reasoning.

Pretty much this guys. They released their first game at a discounted price, which was pretty cool of them. Let's give them a chance.

the_importer: So I e-mailed them to ask about the gamepad issue I was having and also to ask about any future WayForward titles on GOG.com, this is what the rep had to sat about this last question:

Thank you for contacting WayForward Support. We're trying GOG to see how we like it, and how well our games sell there, so we'll see!

the_importer: So ya, the current Shantae game we got is a test pilot to see if the community of GOG.com dig their games, so let's not disappoint them.
Are you talking about this controller issue? If so, I wish there was a way to fix it in the game.
If you don't buy from WayForward, they will lose interest and stop using GOG, and every other indie dev and pub will stop putting their games on GOG as well, and every major publisher here will stop using GOG too, and every future classic release will be Steam-exclusive, and GOG will fail because most people only used them for Good Old Games anyways, letting us know that there is no future in DRM-free, and that the only thing important in PC gaming is being able to have all your games in one place on Steam. And we'll cry ourselves to sleep at night.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Also people think GOG can work wonders on old games and get frustrated that GOG won't make Populous 3 work past Windows 7, and they'll stop using GOG when GOG can't get their non-DOS childhood games running on Windows 15, and GOG will fail and CDP will fail and we'll all fail. And cry ourselves to sleep at night.

Incase anyone is reading me wrong, I never said not to buy the game here.

The dev has already made their budget back on this game along with a tidy profit on other services, I'm worried about the possibility of them pulling support for GOG even if they make more than they invested in putting Shantae on here because they didn't make some magical profit number. It feels very anti-gamer. I'm not saying that's exactly what WayForward are thinking, but that's often what statements like that lead to.

How many copies would it take to make back the cost of a GOG license? Can it really be that many? I bought the game, I did my part, shit I already owned it on the DS and got a friend to buy a copy here too, but if this ends up being the only Shantae game we get, I'll be pissed.

No, it was concerning non-xinput gamepads.
Kind of a weak first-effort, don't you think? How about Mighty Switch Force, that only just came out on PC, people might actually still want to buy it.
RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE.

Okay, with the later release of "...and The Pirate's Curse," should I consider myself safe buying from Wayforward now, right here on GOG? Or is there still a chance they might leave GOG behind in the dust? I don't want to be a victim of a GOG dev that treats GOG customers as second-class citizens.

That can be a double edged sword.

- You want them to stay but don't want to buy until you know they will stay. But if people don't buy the games here then that just tells the developer/publisher that there is no interest for there games on GOG.

wolfsite: there games on GOG.
I think you meant "their".

(Sorry, I am just in my "grammar nazi" mode right now, even though I am not a nazi. Off course, that doesn't mean I won't make mistakes on purpose.)
